So I think I'm gonna put a Sherpa on my truck. Along with rerouting breathers. I know some of you are skeptics about the snorkels but with my thorparts front bumper and trimmed back fender liners, it just seems like an easy way to splash water up into the inner fender. And I just think they look sweet. I'm hoping to hit an overland route called the Ozark overland trail aka "high water mark" trail. Water crossings are abundant, although not "derian-deep". … (sorry buddy ). I fully understand there is such thing as too deep. But I have some questions about fitting one on my 06.
- I've heard the adapter/tube thingy doesn't fit on an 06 airbox. Only 08-up...
- once the snorkel is attached to the box, how do you go about sealing up the lid tighter? I dunno if my airbox is warped or what but my lid is a PITA and fits kinda like poop on the box.
- I have an airdoc so I have the big rubber hose going through the fender. Does that add any benefit to help with installing the snorkel?
- what kind/size of hose do I use for all the breathers?
- could I put some sort of " nipples" in the airbox and plumb the vents into the airbox or is there any sort of pressure or airflow issue where that would be a bad idea?
I've searched through some older threads but didn't really find any good details. Any links would be appreciated.

Excellent thread diggles...I'm interested in doing this to my stock air 08 and having one during off-roading or nasty rain floods here will help me breathe easier...pun intended .
eagerly looking forward to peeps chiming in on this one and providing much needed guidance and tips.

I have an H2, and I know it makes a huge difference, but I'm sure the others with the H3's will chime in soon and give you guys more details! Just be sure you double and triple check all areas that need to be sealed! I'm still looking for someone that makes door seals that will not allow water in through the doors, including the back door!

Not trying to thread hijack diggles I promise..plus keeping this one on top for others to see it.
Thanks renegade, see this...http://youtu.be/ILDV_DLdx5Y
i also recall reading on here somewhere to keep at least 5mph moving and the water won't go in...It's when you stop in it that supposedly it comes in...that's what I read

There's soooo many variables when it comes to water crossings... Water in the diffs, transfer case or transmission. Water in the engine. Water in the cab. Fried bcm. I don't plan on going full submarine. I just wanna increase my odds of survival if it gets on the deep side.

Another trick I heard about is create positive cabin pressure by turning on you climate control fans to high....

To the OP, sorry I am no help as I have never done this before and we don't share the same style of air box.....

Placing a tarp over the grill and keep moving will help. Problem is you never know when you might hit a hole and get stopped.

The fan of course can also cause problems but is an extreme move to disconnect if absolutely a must to go in.

The fuse box is also vulnerable if submerged if you have to stop.

A fishing rod with a cork attached can also help check depth.

Don't be first to cross, ha ha

If it's a long traverse exhaust could be a problem, then there is the electronics under the passenger side dash.

Scary stuff with today's engines.

One trip I guided at Superlift some people went off the deep end, pun intended.
These were all stock H3's and nobody flooded out but I shot pictures and did not attempt.

Interested in this as well... I don't know if I like the look of the Sherpa better or rugged ridge.

I try and keep my seals in good shape. I wipe them down as I clean my interior every few weeks. They aren't all dry and brittle. I dunno if that will help to create a better seal or not though.

Thanks hunner. Most research I've done on the route mentioned above leads me to believe most of the crossings are fairly short. Depth seems to depend on time of year. Trip planning is gonna be a factor to avoid really treacherous conditions as best as possible. But if I put the snorkel on, I want it to be fully functional and do what it's supposed to do.

I know of someone in an H3 that did that trip and had some issues with deep water.
Just don't get lead off the cliff with the rest of the sheep!!

Don't rule out living to die another day and turn around don't drown.

One if my crossings when I was "younger"

So can anyone answer any of my questions? Air box? Breathers?

I believe the snorkle intake fits for all h3 airboxes, you can extend breather tubes, di electric grease on bcm, fusebox, and other electronics. Most importantly go in slow and check the depth or let someone else hit the hole first. Rather be stuck than sorry...

I don't know if you saw this but it was the install on my Alpha with a Safari because that was all that was available.
http://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/for...NNER-Safari-Snorkle-Install&highlight=snorkle

It came with and adapter to the air box. I sealed all of that but the box itself really is not "waterproof" if submerged without a rubber gasket of some sort.

I have never seen water in mine but have not done any really DEEP fording.

I don't know the specifics of those other snorkels but you should be able to construct something if needed.

I did see that hunner. What concerns me is the piece you have to rivet onto the airbox. Its squared. I have an airdoc so theres a piece of rubber tubing going through the fender now. I wonder if that elbow piece inside the fender will connect straight to that. It'd be super easy if it did.
As far as my air box cover, I have to contort the box a little every time I put bthe cover on. It doesn't just sit there all nice. I think there was foam around the perimeter of the cover at one time. I may clean the remnants of that out and squirt a tiny bead of silicone in there and let it dry before I put the lid back on. That may make a kind of gasket-like seal.

It does not fit an 06 box. Idk what you would have to do to make it fix with the airdoc but with my stock box intake the sherpa piece isn't even close to fitting

The 06 box has a round flange where the stock inlet fits on. You toss that out and put on a 3"-3.5" piece of silicone tubing so you then have a piece of silicone tubing sticking through the fender with an open ing of 3.5".... I'll see if I can find a pic.

im wondering if the elbow that connects to the snorkel inside the fender will fit in this piece of tubing and just put a hose clamp on it...

^i agree with Taylor, however the work that one has to out in is a little too much...don't get me wrong I'll do it and was going to since the arb was too over priced, anyways since I discovered the Sherpa then I decided to go that route since it is essentially well priced and about the same price if you decide to go with the rugged ridge set up.

As for sealing I'm going to use black silicon, and silicon the scheiße out of the compliments connections.

Im with you on the price of the arb... Ouch!!
So how was the connection from the snorkel elbow to the airbox made, Torres?

Really?? I think the jk jeep rugged ridge set up looks the best out of all the options I've seen for the 3

-TEXAS FOREVER-

Looks the best, but isn't the best for plug and play, takes alot of fangling around, and hoestly I pulled my entire setup because I was not happy with it's performance and I am going to re-do it all over again for the third time....one day I'll get it right
