I read that link a couple of months ago. Difference is that that link is referring to a Wrangler competitor and H4 successor. The link I pasted is talking about a Raptor beater based on the smaller, existing Colorado platform and not tying in to to the HUMMER name.

The GM marketing types have to be really jealous of the Jeep JK production running in overdrive to keep up with demand for Wranglers. Jeep wins by default since the industry abandoned the utilitarian 4x4 SUV market in the US to Jeep. I can't wait to unload my Rubicon and get back in a Hummer.

Exactly. This is why some H4-ish type SUV seems good to me. A bit smaller than an H3, tough and capable, utilitarian instead of luxury to help keep costs under control. Base it off the Colorado/Canyon and call it a Trailblazer/Envoy... Just make it capable so when the time comes to retire my H2 I'm not left with choosing between a Wrangler and a 10+ year old Hummer.

I agree with you guys. I find it interesting though, that Jeep keeps taking the Wrangler into the market that the H3 occupied. They widened the CJ, brought out the Unlimited, gave it a Pentastar motor, refined the interior and are testing an IFS. The next model may as well put a Hummer badge on it, I bet it kills the Jeep crowd to see their Wrangler being transformed into an H3.

Yep - every new Wrangler is more H3 like with a removable top.

I don't think the HX would be a seller as a stand-alone. Too limited in practicality, and too edgy. It would be another SSR loser that would set GM top mgmt against a real offroad 4x4 for a decade. GM hit it out of the park with the H3 and H3T; they should pick up where they left off, but offer the 2.8 turbodiesel they're putting in the new Canyon.

Not sure I agree. You're probably right with the HX/H4 as a concept vehicle, but typically production vehicles are much more practical than the concept cars they are designed from. A slightly smaller slant back H3. In other words, a GM version of a Jeep Wrangler with Hummer-esq styling, better on-road handling (independent front suspension) and priority on utility. With record sales of Wranglers and no real competition....

Or come out with an updated H3 under Chevy and/or GMC brand, I'd be good with that as well.

With the new colorado/canyon coming out I'm understanding they will be using a coil sprung front end. If that holds true for the 4wd version it shoudn't be a stretch for them to recut some of the body dies that I'm reasonably certain they still have in a warehouse to update a few features and put them into production quicker than greased owl poop.

With CAFE standards what they are, the reality is a re badged Hummer or true Wrangler fighter from GM is not going to happen. Even Jeep, who is selling Wranglers as fast as they can make them, is going to have to do a major redesign next body cycle (2018 m/y) to improve its epa rated mpg. From what I read, solid axels will be gone in favor of long travel ifs.

Perhaps, but the long travel IFS is in response to a market focus shift wanting a smoother ride. Fixing the Wranglers aerodynamics and making it look more like the rest of the Jeep line is the only way they are going to get great mpg gains to help with CAFE. The H4 and HX (with the slanted back and more integrated wheel openings vs the Wrangler's fender bumps) have a headstart at moving through the air. You wont get good aerodynacs with high ground clearance and roomy fenders for large wheels. Will Jeep abandon the flat windscreen, block styling and drag inducing protrusions all over? Doubt it, its "manly".

Maybe, maybe not. I get your point, but if GM can make it work with a full size Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon SUV they should be able to come up with a small or midsize SUV. I wouldn't expect something that looks just like the concept, but general size and styling with with Hummer/Wrangler like off road ability should be doable.

No, not the Reaper - that's just a Silverado that a 3rd party upgrades. I mean a real, GM produced, hard core off road vehicle. I'm not holding my breath though, GM may never produce a real off road Hummer-like vehicle again.

if thats GM's idea of a tough offroad Lada Niva replacement, the HUMMER camp is in sad shape for a come back.
