When I was a Rover/Jeep guy I always looked down at the H2/H3 because in my area 99% of them were DUB equipped rigs. Then after that one day screwing around on a used car lot while my wife was at work I looked over an H3 from top to bottom and walked away impressed on how it was laid out. Years later I am now the proud owner of 2 H3's and I hear it constantly from all my Jeep friends that I've lost my mind and some so called Jeep friends actually stopped being my friend just cause of what I drive. I honestly can't stand the way Jeep owners are now days!

I see plenty of DUB JKU's running around, and I truly laugh when I see a Jeep with an H1 inspired slanted back soft top! Video was pretty cool thanks for sharing the link.

I have been, and always will be, a Jeep guy and despite the California Hummer Bling crowd, I always saw great potential in the H3 as a replacement/alternative to the Grand Cherokee. I love my H3 and I love to see the Hummer hater's faces when I go wheeling. Even though I'm a Jeeper at heart, I don't get their stupidity towards other brands. It's childish. Even though I'm an anti-Rover guy, after years of working with the brand, I will never knock them publicly. If anything I will inform them on all the weak points their vehicle has so they can watch out for it.

Only issues I had with Rover's vs Jeep's was the aftermarket parts availability here in the USA stunk, and after the Series I Discovery, Range Rover Classic, and Defender 90 things got way to electronic. I had a 94 RRC SWB converted to coils vs air bags with BFG AT's, and it could run circles around my 05 Rubicon with MT/R's. My favorite was my 97 Discovery SE with a bigger engine, and manual center locking diff vs viscous coupling. I wheeled them all the time and I never had a mechanical break down on the trail. The brakes on the 94 RRC and Series I Discovery did love to squeal/squeak when going slow thru a parking lot, but some EBC pads took care of the OEM Lucas pads.\

Now my 05 Rubicon on the other hand, I had multiple brake caliper failures out on the trail or road, weak auto transmission that loved going into "limp home mode", rear air locker that always liked to leak when you needed it the most (after several repairs), flexplate that was only connected by 2MM of metal and sounded like a rooster being killed at sun up, and catalytic converters that rattled like beer cans behind a newlywed couples car (went thru 2 sets under warranty).. Then I inherited my dad's 05 LJ, and while it didn't have locker issues since it wasn't a Rubicon, I still had the weak transmission, poorly designed brake calipers, and a few other misc issues. None of which I ever suffered with a single Rover I owned.

After I sold my last 03 Series II Discovery I looked long and hard for a suitable replacement and yep your guess was as good as mine and I went with an 04 Grand Cherokee. The last year of the WJ and a solid front axle vs IFS. I hunted around until I found a Special Edition 4x4 with the 4.7L V8, Quadratrac II, and the upcountry suspension, and towing package. Before I was married my ex G/F mainly drove the WJ and she was extremely rough on it, but nothing could kill that thing! Only parts I ever replaced was the water pump, radiator, and alternator. I wheeled it very aggressively (after my ex G/F put a lovely puncture wound in the LR quarter panel), and I just recently gave it away as a trade in for 2500.00. It had close to 190K on it, and everything still worked like it should. Only faults that vehicle had was a poor HVAC system that you never could get to actually blow air on you, and a creaking steering wheel when you turned (common WJ thing). If I could have I'd have kept it as a trail rig, put in the selectrac 4x4 system, and wheeled it till the doors fell off, but once again there isn't that much WJ aftermarket stuff either. You can a few lifts for it, but most of the rigs I've ever seen were custom.

Overall Jeep vs Rover boils down to Jeep = American Military based 4x4, and Rover = England Military based 4x4. Jeep is going kinda south since FIAT took over and with talk of a complete IFS Wrangler in the works. Rover went extremely soft after 04 and only the Defender remains a true 4x4 rig. Mitsubishi is another good example of a company going soft. The Gen 1/2 of the Montero were awesome 4x4 rigs. I owned 5 of those growing up. Never broke one part, and after 1999 they went full IFS, and unibody... Winner of the Paris Dakar years and years over.

I loved my Jeep's for the top down, door off fun, but overall I found the Wrangler cheaply made, and for the price of a JK/JKU I'd expect the quality to be much better than it is. Jeep's 2014 models have rated pretty poor this year, and I honestly don't think I'll ever drive another one unless it's a WJ.

When I was a Mitsubishi guy everyone acted like I was in a poor man's rig. Funny how I never broke down on the trail unlike the Jeep's, and then I went with the Rover crowd and they showed me that yes you can wheel a 50K RRC and that no one cares what brand you're driving as long as you're out having fun. Then I went with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon because I couldn't find a Defender 90 and the Jeep crowd in the TJ/LJ days were cool people. Then the JK/JKU came out and honestly you felt bad driving a Jeep. We used to go to topless day down at the beach near Galveston, TX and people were happy to see 200 something Jeeps along the shoreline and driving up/down the beach. Then all the pimp my ride JK/JKU owners started coming, driving on the dunes, speeding down the beach, acting like since they drive a JK/JKU no rules apply to them. After 3 topless events like that I stopped going. People would look up at you on the beach and you could tell you were automatically a bad, wild careless person... It was the same way out on the trails. We used to wheel at BVORR and the owner would let us have the place to ourselves trusting us, then several new breed of Jeeper's showed up, trashed the trails, made new trails thru wildflowers (hard during a drought for them to grow), and even crashed into the main office cabin porch without being man enough to report it. Needless to say we were never invited back due to a few bad seeds.

It honestly made me sick that we went from wheeling, having fun, and making friends to mall crawling car shows, ruining other peoples fun (beach), and not making friends wherever we went. I got out of all the local Jeep clubs I was in (was co-organizer of one), and I eventually sold my Jeep's. I loved the early days of owning a Jeep, but it's just not the same anymore. It seems to be all about what brand stuff you have on your rig, my lift is bigger than yours, my rig cost 65k, and OMG don't get it dirty.

I'm extremely happy with these Hummer Forums and the quality of the people out there enjoying their rigs, and wheeling them. The Jeep Forums were all about drama and bashing people. I love modifying my H3's and when my daughter gets old enough I plan on taking a really good vacation out to Moab in the H3 and having some fun with some great people.

Funny, I'm a jeep guy & I find the general Jeep circle jerk pretty hilarious.

Pulling out dufuses with "H3 RECOVERY VEHICLE" stickers on, or going where they couldn't was always funny, I miss that about having the 3.
Every goober in CO has a Jeep, and 99% of them will never see anything more than a gravel road.

btw, aside from my rear locker not working... I love my JKUR... but I just get tired of the circle jerk.

I used to get grief in SAR about my H3 until I pointed something out that flat shut them down.

Whenever it comes time to transport people and gear, I'm always first loaded with a line of others wanting to ride... Jeeps are always the second choice.

I like roof-off cars, my 4x4 of choice was FJ40s - lots tougher than a Jeep, and then, less money too. In the mix were several CJ7s. But, as I get older, I realized that the fiberglass top really doesn't provide that much roll-over protection - and worse, because it's always a PITA to remove the top; many times I just wouldn't bother (especially on the FJ40 with the pipe-inside-a-pipe roof mount system that would invariably rust solid).

I have a Land Rover because it's what my wife wants.... it's an okay rig, but I don't fit in it. I've hit my head at least twice getting in and out, and the seat doesn't go back far enough for me. Fortunately, I don't have to drive it often.
