No offense to our friends in California, but gun laws are a big reason why I don't vacation in California. Yes, I understand that Southern California is very different than Central and Northern California. My Aunt and Uncle are as conservative as they come; they live in Atascadero. My Grandmother is a bit liberal, but she's 101 years old so she's earned the right to have some compassionately soft-hearted views.

SoCal isn't too bad politically but unfortunately we live under the same goofy laws as NorCal.

I am glad to see this girl wasn't arrested. Im sure if she was in california the intruder would be given rights, she would be in jail and the baby would be taken away by the govt.

Sounds like an excellent Righteous Shooting! A mama determinedly protecting her baby makes a poor victim, as the perps found out.

I am pretty sure that Oklahoma has a Castle Law like Texas. In that event once the moron breaks in she does not have to retreat, give warning or anything, she can shoot to protect both herself and property. She did exactly what she should have done.

Who cares? The cops are under no obligation to protect you, as the courts have ruled numerous times. In this case, the sheriff wasn't needed to protect this woman and her baby. He did his job - showed up before the corpse started to stink, had it hauled off, and congratulated the woman on her excellent marksmanship skills. Most likely he was at another scene arranging the disposal of another stiff who had the bad sense to break into an armed Oklahoman's home.

Oh, did I mention that guns are eeeevil and scary, and that I will never own one?

All politics aside I love this area for its weather and for the accessibility of mountains, desert and the sea. Yes, it's crowded but so far it's been worth it to me. I wouldn't be adverse to living in a nice place like Utah, for example. Love the places I've seen in Utah.

Part of me is glad that the gun laws are the way they are in Canada (i.e. basically nobody has guns on their person).

However, if someone broke into my home I'd love to shoot their sorry arse. I think you should be allowed to protect your home with reasonable force, if that means guns then so be it. Some two-bit criminal who's breaking in probably doesn't care about the gun laws... why should I be disadvantaged because I am a law-abiding citizen?

Also great about that article - the other **** who tried to break in is now being charged for murder. Proper thing.

Since you can never disarm the crooks, as all the countries that have banned legal firearm ownership have discovered, then it is only fair that everyone who is sane, clean and wants to can be armed. I am usually well protected.

In California there isn't a castle doctrine so to speak. You have to retreat and basically be put into the position of no hope of escape. Then you have to yell out I have a gun and I'm going to shoot your stupid arse. Then and only then can you put the intruder six feet under. You still have to hope that you get a fair District Attorney and that one bullet doesn't miss it's intended target or you gots sum splainin' to do. That's why I'm a Life and Benefactor member of the NRA and a member of the USCCA. So I have the use of their Lawyers when I do have to pull the trigger.

California has many issues much more serious than their goofy gun laws but the gun laws are symptomatic of the problems California does have. This place is in over it's head and is set up for an epic fail. The politicians in Sacramento have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.
