I'm off the trail it took us 5 hrs to go about 2 miles. I'm in 4hi I disconnected the battery cleared the code then turned key on but not the motor and it shifted. Me and my buddy reconnected the wire and the code went away. Ill post more when I'm home

Clawhammer is a gnarly trail for sure. I was the only IFS rig on there all day, the 2 big underdogs were me and the guy who has a Dana 60 under his Chevy silverado crew cab, that truck was huge and the wheelbase helped and hurt him in areas. The nice advantage he had was with a 14 bolt in the rear and a Dana 60 up front the skinny pedal and bump it method was not a concern. For me on the other hand, there are spots where bumping it is the only way to go about it. I did so carefully.

The 2 small jeeps in the background turned around. They made it to the gatekeeper and said **** this...were turning back.

Heading up the trail

Those 2 spots where I stopped to take still pictures were probably the smoothest part of the trail

38s and a V8 sure helped the wheelbase issue

Look at my back tire, here is where I learned to run your ABS wires on the inside of your framerail!

Trail traffic...

H3ing, remember this guy!?!?! He was on nightmare gulch 2 years ago, he had the tube chassis and modified a 1942 willys body onto it. I saw him and asked him if he remembered me, surprisingly he was like of course I remember you!!! It was cool to see that he remembered squeaky from 2 years ago especially seeing hes all buggied out.

Heres the waterfall, it was massive! The obstacle was undercut and bigger then my tires so a good bump and a few rocks stacked I made it, heres the silverado tackling it.

some of the guys behind us

SICK!

It was a great weekend. Seeing the IFS rigs was amazing. IFS is the future, I personally think they tackled obstacles in the rocks faster then the SAS guys and my new favorite driver is Tom Wayes, especially after seeing this live! He was unreal.

If IFS doesnt explode on this I am not sure it will explode at all. Even my solid axle buddy was telling me how IFS was kicking ass in the rocks. I am a believer in IFS and want to keep it but after clawhammer I realized I need 37s bad, running a much longer wheelbase then everyone but the chevy 35s dont cut it and I am not sure how long 37s will last with IFS. I will finish putting my front diff w/locker in and try to put on 37s soon but have this on the side.

Fully built, I could of bought one way cheaper as in a stock D44 but this guy fully built it for his CJ before selling it and going to a yota. He told me if I needed parts its for a 73 blazer so I assume thats what its out of. It was sandblasted, painted, all new seals, warn hubs, 5.13s, chromoly shafts, detroit locker 1350 yoke beefy diff cover etc. I would spend 2500 to build it like that and I spent way less then half of that. Everything has zero miles on it, I would sell the detroit to offset the cost for an eaton or ox locker.

I want to keep IFS but to keep up with the big boys on trails at the hammers its not feasible, atleast with the stock IFS. I have given it hell and it holds up to 99% of the stuff I do. I have talked in extreme detail with 4speed and I was assured I could retain the amazing creature comforts of my IFS caddy like ride with a SAS if I made driveability my first priority. I still have months until I start cutting and may change my mind and resell the axle, I am not sure yet but having this in the garage looking at it, buying brackets etc will help me.

In 10 years from now when I have more money to spend and the price of IFS comes down I may chop off the solid axle stuff to replace it back with IFS.

One of the main things I want to retain is streetability and desert abilites, johnson valley has tons of open desert type roads with whoops and I blasted down a ton of them and even got squeaky airborne, it soaked it all up and I want to retain that as much as possible.

Thanks guys, I will continue to push it as I am still a bit far away from the project.

Even now, all this stuff is still doable with my setup but when your running with guys on bigger tires then you, shorter wheelbases, front/rear lockers and even then the tires they run are mud terrains I am hybrid tire its tough to move at the pace they move. I think bebe can relate to that. She can run the rubicon in near stock H3 but when your trying to keep up with buggies its tough.

IFS is the ****, I just wanna see it evolve more. If there was an easier way to do IFS I would.

After running clawhammer poncho I think I am near ready for isham canyon as is.

How long was the clawhammer trail? Yah you're ready for Isham :)

The IFS racers are cool, but they have big $$ in them. Amazing to me 158 cars started, 32 finished. The winner was solid axle I believe.

2 miles IIRC and it took 5 hours. Sledgehammer is supposed to be way worse then claw too.

Yea they have a ton of money into them but I think they work great! IFS can be done on these trails, factory IFS at that. Its just the speed of the trail, which is totally fair IMO. It doesnt make sense to run the same speed when they have an extra locker, same size MTs or bigger tires and shorter wheelbases.
