Lamborghini Ownership Anyone ?

I was recently offered a used Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 but I have never owned an exotic Sports Car before. So I was wondering what you guys think? I've owned a few Corvettes and Camaros in past years. However, being a guy that does not desire or look for attention, I am concerned about the possibility of unruly kids and other strange people taking pictures of me, and the Car, or filming me without my consent. I cannot imagine driving down the highway and some punk kids taking my picture, or worse filming me on their cell phones, if this is even legal?

Yes, it is perfectly legal to take photos of you/your car in public.

If they are peering through your window of your house, then no.

And I take pictures of Lamborghinis if I see one, so I can't say I would reccomend the car to you.

If the price was good yes. Attention is proportional to where you live. Within about a mile of my place in Newport are the following dealerships: Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Bentley, Mercedes, BMW, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Range Rover, Porsche, Audi, Maserati and McLaren. ( not to mention numerous used exotic car dealers like EurocarOC ). Unless you are driving an Enzo or Bugatti nobody pays attention to what you drive.

I wish somebody offered me a Lambo!!
I chatted up a guy at our local C&C with a Gallardo and he said he loves it...I suppose if you can afford to keep one then why the hell not?!
Oh, and kids (and adults too) will want to take pics of the car.

In April I went to the New York auto show with my sights set on a Maserati. I got a chance to check one out and it was impressive. When I got home I was thinking why buy 1 sports car when I can buy 2? So I ended up buying a pair of corvettes. A 2013 grand sport convertible left over and a 2014 C7. My daughter and I love going out driving together now. Officially we say that the C7 is hers and the C6 is mine. Anyways, long story short, I was not prepared for the level of attention that came with the C7 vette. People gather around it in parking lots to take pictures, people almost lose control of thier cars taking pictures on the road, and of course every kid with a mustang wants to race. Face it, it comes with the territory. It's a look at me car. Around here the ratio I have seen is that there are more Ferraris and Maseratis than Lambos.

I'd say if your that worried don't get it. I personally like the looks. There is a guy here in Indianapolis who uses his Lamborghini Gallardo as his daily driver. Has somewhere over 100k miles. He even puts snow tired on it in the winter

Honestly you can get a used Gallardo for 70-80k (I know this is high still but a lot less than the 200k they originally cost) I also wouldn't be surprised if the murcialagos have come down in price since the aventador took its place

Id be afraid of seeing some texting and driving. I mean they would be taking pics then sending them out to your friends. I think you would feel bad for being responsible for the action of texting and driving. :cheers:

The Murcielago (LP640) are in a realm way above the Gallardo. If you do get it, make sure it's manual transmission and not the e-drive sequential gearbox. The great thing about the Murcielago is that it's the last super car that can be fixed by most mechanics. It's super stable for a car with that power. I worked on a projects both with Brembo and Pirelli that involved Murcielagos. The only sensitive things it has is the front suspension that raises the vehicles for parking lots that is run but the power steering pump. You have make sure the level in the reservoir is not to high or too low. The other thing is that the idle has to be tuned right or it starts to jump up and down. You should also install an oil vapor catch can to avoid contaminating the sensors in the left rear throttle body. Otherwise you have to replace whole throttle body and it's expensive. If you plan to take to race track a lot, get rid of cross drilled rotors. Call Brembo USA and ask for the 8 piston kit with the slotted rotors. The factory cross drilled crack at holes if you take it to track a lot.

One last thing. DO NOT BUY TUBI STYLE EXHAUST. It looks like a a good exhaust but really it's a straight pipe and they charge you over 3 grand for it. The sound is so annoying you have to drive with hearing protection.

Thanks ReconH3 but way do you think the e-gear is not so good? When you say manual, you mean a stick shift and not the steering clumn e-gear mounts?

E-gear are really manual/stick shift transmissions with hydraulic pistons that do the job you normally do when you move the stick. It still has a regular disc clutch only you don't control it. A well driven e-gear transmission by someone knowledgeable that knows how not to do any damage, will last 33% less then the same clutch in the manual transmission. If you are not experienced it will last even less. Already changing the clutch on a Lamborghini is serious business, since you have to remove the whole rear of the vehicle to extract engine with transmission. On the e-gear it's twice the work with all the additional hydraulic lines and pistons. The ordeal becomes a very expensive deal, and on top of that you will have to get it done more often. Also the factory programming is for the grocery getters, and isn't really tuned for sport driving that take more advantage of the e-gear. If the local Lamborghini mechanic doesn't know how to adjust it to your style of driving it will suck. I always felt I couldn't burn out of a light simply because you have no control on how the clutch is releases as you accelerate.

I'd say buy it and ditch the 3. They are useless and hang out on the Lamborghini forum

Today, prices are not that high. 98-01 Diablo can be had for $125k if you're patient and have cash. Murcies about $185k. Not bad considering brand new they were over $300k.
