Losing acceleration for a few seconds after first start up

Just like the title says. I'm losing acceleration in the morning after first startup a few seconds down the road, and it only lasts a few seconds. It also happens when I leave work at night, after it sits for 10 hours. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if the problem was resolved? I'm not an engine kinda guy, or transmission for that matter so I don't know where to look really. Thanks

Wild guess but I wonder if the fuel pump might be having issues. Maybe it doesn't start up well but gets going after a bit.

Might take a close look at the fan clutch. I have not heard of anything specific to the H3 but I know on other cars they can cause loss of power when they fail (and they often engage on first drive in the morning).

I was having some stumble on acceleration a while ago. Changing the plugs (mine were a little weak) and thoroughly cleaning the carb plates and inside the throttle body did the trick. Oh, and I also cleaned the MAF sensor. I didn't think those items would have been my issue, but it was a simple solution in my case. Not sure that's your issue, but it's worth a look, and doesn't cost much...

Best of luck

All good ideas, thanks everyone. Think I'll start with the MAF sensor as that seems the easiest to get to and it's the 2nd time I heard about it today. Maybe the universe is giving hints. I was thinking fuel pump but it starts and runs fine, it just loses acceleration around this one corner a few seconds up the street. But it also seems to really happen when I have the a.c. on, I'll have to try again when I'm not running the a.c. to be sure.

If you think it could be a/c related, listen to the compressor when the a/c is engaged and see if it is noisy. Note that the a/c goes on and off as needed so you may have to listen for a minute or two. Perhaps it's binding and dragging the belts and the engine.

I think it is the AC compressor. I didn't notice til today, when I drove into the shop where I work. I heard rapid ticking from outside the vehicle, my windows were down. So I shut off the AC and it stopped, turned back on and same thing.

Still ....check on all those other things. Mine would sometimes even 'die' at intersections or leaving intersections. I think the main thing on mine was the throttle plates and bore carbon'd up. Also my plugs were worn more than I would have imagined. But yeah, could be compressor. Let us know what it turns out to be.

So, over the weekend I did take out the MAF sensor and throttle body. Cleaned both and threw them back in. The throttle body was pretty gunked up but the sensor seemed fine, cleaned it anyway just to make sure. While doing that I did notice the air filter was pretty cruddy, tried to blow it off and only a little dirt came off. I ordered a new aFe dry filter and installed yesterday. No hesitation on acceleration this morning with AC on. I still have a couple days before an appointment with a local shop about the AC condenser. By then I should know better whether it was any of the 3 things I've done to it. The engine was replaced 1,000 miles ago with a used Colorado's with 75,000 miles on it so I imagine they would've done spark plugs but if it's not resolved then that's the next step.

That's good news.

You might also ohm out the ignition coils if you look at the spark plugs. Only takes a few seconds. All these things you're doing are routine maintenance issues.
