okay so today while driving home from work i was going about oh idk 55 -60 and had to brake hard to come to a stop. (light changed fast) anyways the red oil light popped on for a split second then went away. when i got home i checked the oil and there was nothing. the dip stick was bone dry. to be fair i was driving it for awhile so all the oil could be other places in the engine. i also checked the line that goes into the intake and there was a ton of oil in there i assume its burning oil. the last oil change was at 82k im at 86xxx so an oil change is on the list asap. Will someone tell me if this is the head problem??? im really worried/pissed off.

Head issue doesn't cause it to burn oil. It runs rough and loses compression in a cylinder. Any visible oil leaks? Pan, front cover or rear main. If you were that low, it should show a leak.

not a drop anywhere, i park it in the same place every single day. i noticed a lot of oil through the hose that goes into the intake.

Add oil and see how many qts it takes to fill. If you were totally without oil the oil light would always be on; not just at a sudden stop. Oil in the PCV system is normal, every time you go wide open throttle, the engine goes from a vacuum pump to an air pump; thus it pushes some oil through the PCV system. But to run any noticeable amount of oil through the PCV system means major engine problems.
Pull the skid plats and see if you are leaking oil and also check around the engine where the cyl head mates to the engine block. Those damn skid plates will mask any large oil leak. Look at the trans housing to the engine and see if it appears to have a large stain...which could indicate a rear main seal leak.

That's for a start....

Are you sure that Chris didn't put a short Corolla dipstick in your H3 just to mess with you?

nope went a bought oil and put it in and im back up to acceptable oil levels, im going to watch it to be safe. i pulled all the skids and left them off i didnt see and signs of leaks other than the massive power steering pump leak which needs to be fixed eventually. so far i think the oil loss is from high revs.

How much oil did you have to add? And high revs?

probably 2 quarts and 5k+ rpm. gotta get this 5 banger working often, when making a right on red here in scv its almost impossible, you get people doing 10mph over the limit and when you pull out they fly up on you.

Two quarts low would definitely turn on the oil light at a hard stop. Also, you do know its not the corvette. The light does turn green. Also thinking, you might be the one that pisses me off too. My truck is probably close to 8k in weight. And you pull out in front of someone knowing that they are doing 10 over the speed limit and you have to hammer it to get it going? Personally, I wait till I know there's room for me to pull out my .02. Take it for what it's worth. H2, H3 and definitely the H1 are not speed demons or rocket cars.

yea ive since changed my driving style, i let the car shift at 2k, and 2.5k if need to keep up with traffic. Im going to do a full oil change in the next few weeks and ill also be calling you to possibly get a new 4:1 t case sometime in the near future.

4.10 is roughly $1139. Plus the ride or come pick it up for free.

what about a used or rebuilt one?

I wouldn't put a used one in it. My preference. I checked prices when mine was out. GM was the best option for me. Not know the history of it and such. I've seen wrecking yards asking for near that. Plus the warranty. Rather than the tail light warranty or 30 days.

Somehow I have made it through scv and sfv with speeding drivers just fine and I'm much slower then you. Sliders and skids rack up the weight quickly.

Don't expect much speed from a 4x4 without doing custom work. I get where I'm going just at a little bit slower even then it's not that much slower then a typical little Toyota or Honda

Okay, the oil in the vapor recovery tube is normal, especially if you are wheeling and like to hit red line on a normal basis. I have the same issue with mine.

I typically loose a quart of oil every 5000 miles. No leaks anywhere. I am convinced it is my driving style that causes this. I recently changed over to synthetic with a slightly higher viscosity to see if this removes my issue.

I may get a catch can just to measure how much loss I have in a certain mileage period.

It will also help me from having to clean the TB so often.

It's off-topic for this post, but I can sympathize with Kyle. I've been driving a looonnnggg time...west coast and some east coast experience thrown in and what I've seen the last couple of years is new. People will charge up and speed to prevent someone from turning out; even when you have twice the normal distance to safely pull out. I get the impression it's not anything Kyle's doing that people fly up on him. It's just the nature of some of these drivers nowadays....
