New guy in Omaha, scared the crap out of myself today!

Well, I got a 2007 H3 last month. Been lurking here for a while. It's black, has 125000 on it, and is in perfect condition inside. Runs well, Idles a little rough, otherwise it's great.

So in tradition of me never being able to leave anything alone, I stuck in a K&N drop in filter, and did an oil change with Mobil 1 & a Bosch filter...

Today, for the first time in ten years of changing oil, the old filter gasket stuck to the block and I didn't see it.

Stuck new filter in, put it all back together, then backed it off the lift. Let it sit and run so I could get a visual that it wasn't gonna leak oil from anywhere, and sure enough it started spraying oil all over the ground...

So back on the lift she went. I figured I didn't have the filter on tight enough so I gave it a couple turns, then it got really easy to turn... I was afraid I stripped the threads then I noticed the gasket had squeezed out and around the filter...

Pulled the gasket out, figured the new filter was toast, so I took it out and noticed it's gasket was fine! Then I checked the old filter and found out where I went wrong.

Any way it scared the crap out of me to be seeing oil spraying everywhere! All is well now though.

Happy to be here and I can't wait to mod the hummer a little bit once the summer sets in around here.

Nate

Welcome to the forum. Yeah, good thing you checked it out. Most people just get in and drive away. Best to always be safe. Shoot, would have freaked me out seeing oil spraying everywhere.

Mine idles a little rough too? are the I5 supposed to run like that? I have almost 90k on my '07 I just bought and I was thinking about changing the plugs and gas filter to see if that would help

Gas filter is in the tank, so that's a tough change. Plugs are due for a change at 100K, so now's a good time to do it. Also recommend cleaning the throttle body and running some Techron through the tank. Regardless, the H3 isn't the smoothest engine, in my opinion.

I'm thinking about seafoaming it next to see if it'll clan out the injectors and clean up the valves a little... And I want to put on the air doc as soon as I can afford one

Jesus, really?? Any idea on whether that's the case on the V8 as well? Why on earth wouldn't they put it inline on the fuel lines??

Howdy and Welcome!

I did that a few months back with my Crown Victoria! unfortunately I ruined the new filter gasket as well as the old one. First time I ever did that after six years of vehicle ownership.
