Well my Wife got me a new Pioneer SPH-DA120 (Car Play) for Xmas. She wanted to surprise me with it but wasn't sure what all I needed for the install and told me about the gift early.

I have a base model 2006 H3, no Bose but with On Star and wondering if the Axxess GMOS-1 is the harness I need and how well it integrates the radio, On Star and factory door chimes? I've already figured out the antenna adapter and dash kit but the GMOS-1 reviews I read seemed to be either a 1 stars or a 5 star and not a lot in-between.

Thanks for any opinions and install advice!!

Ok cool, thanks jallen!

Just so I understand this, the new radio wiring harness will be wired to GMOS wiring harness, correct?

I still keep thinking I need one of those $12 dollar generic GM wiring harness but I guess that's just because I'm old school lol.

Does the Monsoon pkg require a special harness or adapter for an aftermarket head unit?

When I put mine in last month I ordered everything from crutchfield and it asks if u have the monsoon system or not. I do so it took a different adapter so onstar and door chimes still work

I don't use OnStar, and I'd pay to be rid of that obnoxious door chime. If that's all that's affected, I'd pass.

I also am shopping for a new head unit for my 2006 H3. I like Sony products mainly because of user friendly options and most of Sony stereos allow the user to operate the ipod from the ipod when plugged into USB. The 2-DIN is the way to go. Looking at the touch screen models.

go to crutchfield. they'll tell you everything you need to know. you pay a bit more, but you can return anything. i've been buying from them for 10 years and i've been happy.

Are head units by the major makers essentially plug-n-play?
Can everything necessary to swap head units be done from through the front of the console?

Good info. My radio busted from my massive sun roof water leak so I'm headed to Best Buy tomorrow to pick out a new Deck and possible speakers. What is the favorite of you guys? Deck head unit and speaker recommendation? Thanks.

Why bother getting a new radio if you're going to get rid of your rig based on your post in another thread instead of buying a new mirror because one broke. Not sure I understand your logic Ray.

it's super easy. there's tons of room in there. even wiring up reverse and park is easy. the hardest part is connecting all the wires from the stereo harness to the car adapter harness, but that can be done inside while you watch TV. the rest is just taking out the old one, plugging in the connections, putting in the new one. one of the easiest stereo installs ever.
