3.7 with 71k..imho. 0 miles really? That just sets off alarms in my head but perhaps there's a logical explanation and you can start at 0 like driving off the production line but wth 0 miles...who has 0 miles and pulls an engine unless it fell off a truck.
this whole thing has got me to thinking bout getting another engine and keeping it on the side and start rebuilding and getting it macked out to have ready to drop in should the need arise. Not sure if it's paranoia or what but I plan on keeping my h3 and can't drop 10k for a new one from dealer so looking at this option.
down the line swap out the current one, drop in that macked out one and commence rebuilding the one pulled out for the next go around. Ok maybe I am being paranoid.

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet. Push squeaky under a large oak tree. Throw a chain fall on a large branch for the heart transplant. A 30 pack of PBR may help make the job go smooth. Pics of this would almost guarantee you a spot in next years calendar. :klink:

God bless Burt Munro...one of my all time heros! BTW...If you haven't seen the "Worlds Fastest Indian"...you need to. It totally captures the spirit of why we gear-heads do the crazy $h!t we do.

My uncle heard about my engine failure probably through one of my cousins and called me. He told me he did use a big ass oak tree and a chain. I wonder if the balcony pillar will hold that weight. LOL I can see it now. I'll be murdered if that fails. Either way my neighbors don't hate me or they don't have the balls to show their disgust. Where I live they usually will talk **** behind someone's back. Either way I gotta get moving!!! Lol gonna call around more today.

Didn't really read through the thread but I did see on craigslist there is a guy in Louisiana with the 3.7 out of his H3 with 19k miles on it that he's asking $1500 for. He swaped in a LS1 corvette motor in place of it

picking up Zach's envoy with the 5.3 Found a guy who has all the adapter parts. I have yet to see a detailed H3 v8 swap so its time to get one on here. Prices for the I5 are astronomical if I want one that is low mileage. Some motors have more miles then mine so **** that.

DMV swap legal too. must be same year or newer engine then car. im 06 engine is 07, must retain all original emission equipment which it does

Good luck with that swap. It's a shame GM didn't support the I5 engine any longer. I think that reason alone makes other engine choices the best option. My thoughts on a 3.6L V6 for a swap were based on the fact that the engine has been installed in so many GM vehicles as the base engine and some of them are rated up to 300 HP. I kind of like the new Colorado/ Canyon trucks but not enough to let go of my H3T or my K1500. I'm curious if any of the new Colorado/ Canyon truck parts could be used as upgrades on our trucks....

Rental engine hoists are cheap and well worth the money.

Hell yeah, I would love to see a detailed V8 swap thread.

Does that mean no OEM parts when the inventory is gone? That can't be good for the future of the existing H3s I5s. Sounds like an opportunity for someone to produce a real I5 to V8 swap kit for H3s.

OK I'll go first

1 what ecu are you using? Alpha ecu or one included with the engine?

2 what are you doing about transmission adaptation? You will need input shaft, bell housing and torque converter.

3 does your source of adapter parts include alpha oil pan, ac hoses, heater lines, radiator hoses, trans cooler lines

I really hope the smog nazis let this through. You would be surprised at what I have seen as "illegal". I am still in shock over the AirDoc debacle I had when smogging my truck last time.

What did the the smog nazi say about your air doc? You must go to strict smog shops, I've taken cars to smog checks with mufflers deleted, and one time my friend had just his MAF connected to his throttle body nothing else and went through smog no problem! Lol

Keep in mind that a lot of emission laws changed in 2014 so your time may be coming. The muffler should not be an issue since it really isn't an emission requirement.

The reason I was given for the AirDoc was that it was not factory equipment and did not have a registered CARB number. Trust me, I tried to reason with him on how replacing an ineffecient tube with a smooth tube probably made it put out fewer emissions but he had to go with the law, not common sense. Good thing I still have ALL the parts I have swapped out over the years that may be linked to emissions.

See that's the stupid **** that pisses me off. I hate that shops don't use common sense sometimes!

04colylq9 is helping with all the parts. He will be providing a pcm/tcm gotta order an oil pan I will be probably using the trailblazer trans with parts I will swap over like the pan valve body.

I am currently not worried about smog. I was just smogged this past summer I had plenty of things I could get tagged for and passed no issue. I will go back. I will be contacting dmv again tomorrow

Welcome to the world of engine swapping. The engine will be only about half of your expense. The other half will be in nickle and dime stuff. Once you figure the transmission issue out there will be another ah crap moment with the next little detail to figure out.

Car engineers can't leave anything consistent for more than a year. Always changing something.

Thanks....lol I know it's lonely over here. you engineered the diy 4bt swap, Cj revolutionized the diy SAS and now I hope to add in another option a DIY 5.3 swap for the I5 guys.

I plan to disable the dod/afm that bull**** is 4cyl mode to save gas. A lot of 5.3 guys claim that when you burn oil....I plan to disable that.

Alpha oil pan and I will also need some other items like a pick up tube because the envoys sump is forward facing. Current performance sells an oil pan kit that all the colorado guys use and it says h3 in the description too.

The one thing I would be familiar with at with this project is the motor mount fabrication but that is already done for me. I can use OEM frame motor mounts and current performance adapter mounts. I was told they will keep everything in stock location but not sure how true that is with the h3.

One thing I have not thought or figured out yet is exhaust. I will need some alpha exhaust pics. My assumption is the 5cyl stuff is long gone. It's probably different size.

The trans is the tough part because I can use my existing trans and the trailblazer trans and be swapping parts over but depending on transmissions I might have to add input sensors and crap. Supposedly if I just get an 08 alpha trans nothing will have to be added it will be plug and play with the harness. Just for sanity purposes I might do that. Then I can sell my other trans and blazer trans after the swap and recoup some of that money

I am sure you know you'll need Alpha exhaust manifolds to clear the frame rails.

I am not sure how much of my Exhaust is stock but if you need pics shoot me a PM!

One thing I can use is use an 08+ trans...another pain in the ass option is adding an input sensor

Check out PATC, http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l60e.htm. This is the route I plan on going if my trans every goes. They sell rebuild kits or built transmissions and according to their website they currently have some new, never installed 4l60e's from 2010 H3 that they have upgraded to their level 3 build.

Thanks guys, my current dilemma is that the newer trans use Input speed sensors. I can adapt it by drilling a hole into it or I can try and use the trailblazer trans depending on how the output shafts are. Its a 2wd so I am not sure if I remove the 2wd slip yoke and put on the tailhousing of the H3 one. Or the easiest option is to find a wrecked H3 from 08 and up ( I think 08 up) and run that

PATC has them with the new input speed sensors that may be helpful but the price isnt!
but then I can sell my other 2 trans (blazer and squeakys original) I am need to make sure the bell housing is the same for the 5.3 blazer and 5.3 h3 alpha. I assume it is....

As for exhaust can I get some pics of them running down the driver side and see where they end up and crossover? I assume its by the tcase because the t case has a t case heat shield of alphas.

Headers, from what it looks like I think they will work on the pass side but not the driver so I need one header on the driver side for sure and I might be ok with the pass side.
