Hello all. My wife and I are considering purchasing a 04 H2. We test drove it last night and she really liked it. I am not new to 4X4's but they have been mostly Toyota's and older Chevy's. Could someone tell me what I should be looking out for? This one has 104XXX miles, sits on 37" Dick Cepek tires and has a check engine light on. I pulled the code and it is P0118, engine coolant temprature circuit high. Is that just a sensor failure or something more menacing? We currently have two 5th Gen Camaros that are cammed and modded. I can do a lot of the work myself if needed but dont want to buy a money pit. I was reading the forum last night while waiting to get posting authority and have lots of questions about options. It appears to have center and rear locking diffs but I dont know how to tell if it has air suspension. I didn't crawl under it to look. I also read to check the power steering as it may be leaking since it has the larger than stock tires. I'll have to look if we decide to pursue it. Also what about the roof leaking? Dont know if this one does as I only sat in the back while she drove. If it does, does that mean its a no go? I did notice that the AC was dripping a lot of water. I did the feel/taste check to make sure it was water and not antifreeze or oil. Anyway, I'm rambling but if y'all could answer those questions it would get me started. Thx.

first off if you follow through, then welcome to the fam. im not sure on the temp sensor since i tend to leave engine **** with the dealership to fix. If you'd like to know about the air suspension then you can either look directly above the gear shifter, if it does have it there should be a height adjustment button there along with 2 or 3 others. another way to tell is to go to the rear of the truck and get low enough to view where the springs/air bags are, you'll be able to see them.

btw the air bags would look like black cylinders made of rubber

Thx for the quick reply. While waiting I went and looked at an 05 with 94xxx miles. Much better condition. Signed the papers a few minutes ago. I looked underneath and can see the coils but don't see any bags. It's liste on the paperwork that it has Nav, rear air suspension, tow/camper package and something else. Like I said I don't see air bags though. Once I get home I'll really get under there and look. Looking forward to learning about my new ride.

Welcome from New Jersey! And I have to concur, if you see springs, it probably doesn't have the air system. But you will love your H2! Trust me!!!

Thx again everyone. Went to the beach today. Where we live you can actually drive on beach and in the water if your so inclined or drunk. Many people do. Anyway it was high tide. Very high tide and there was only about one and a half trucks width to drive on without being in the dunes or waves. Found an FJ Cruiser with paper tags out there testing their rig also. They followed us the length of the beach to the next access road. About twenty miles. Tested out 4Hi lock, 4Lo lock and the rear locker. All appear to be working fine. That makes me happy. I didn't want to have to start the relationship under the truck. I've been told my truck looks like a Lux edition. I'm waiting for a VIN check for confirmation. What do y'all recommend for a snorkel and front and rear bumpers. Oh and a winch. What size do I need to be sure I can get my own vehicle unstuck. I'd guess that the beach will be the most offloading I'll be doing until spring. Hope to get up to the hill country in Texas to do some real wheeling. Currently running the BFG All Terrains that came with it. They are a 315 but I'd like to get some bigger mud terrains. I've heard 37's will fit without a lift but probably may start with 35's. Any recommendations on those as well? I look forward to halls input.

If you get new tires get 37's or you will regret it. A lot of us have KM2's and are happy with them. As for a winch a rule of thumb is one rated for 1.5 times the vehicles weight.

I have 35 1250s on mine, nitto mud grapplers and they look decent, but I agree with fish, you'll regret it if you don't go 37s I know I am.
as for a winch, I'm also looking for one myself, but I want a winch that's incorporated into a bumper and/or brush guard as those look much mor sleek on the vehicle.

I have the Boulder Accesories winch bumper, I think their pretty much impossible to find at this point but it's nice and it hides the winch internally. I haven't installed it yet...

Welcome! Just thought I'd throw out that it's not uncommon for people to swap out the air suspension with regular coils. Some people swear by the air suspension, others just swear at it. If your build sheet lists air suspension but you see coils, someone probably had a problem with the bags and just swapped coils in. I believe the air suspension also comes with an air-hose attachment somewhere in the rear. I'm happy with coils but I'd love on-board air for easier airing down/up. If you play on the sand a lot, that would probably be really handy.

You're right Jack, we get an air hose attachment to the right as you open the rear hatch on SUV's, and under a panel on the SUT's.
I've aired up on the trail after a run with the compressor and you could actually grow stubble waiting to air all four tires, plus the air hose metal parts were smoking hot when I was done. It works for airing up, but I've found better use airing up inflatable beach toys and camping matresses with the thing--that's where it really shines!

I've used my air suspension for towing duty since we bought the deuce and swear by it for a smooth ride. If I'd have video taped my first several (10 or more) experiences trying to get the trailer on/off the deuce it would make for great You-Tube video. I initially had the hand crank jack on the trailer and it takes some bit of witch craft to figure out how to get the ass of the truck down enough so you're not cranking the trailer to max height every time (that's exhausting). Once I got the electric jack on the trailer life became worlds easier, though you have to make sure to close ALL of the truck doors to get the air suspension to behave (it's part of how the system works). Every once in awhile I still have one of the kids diving into the truck while I'm hitching/unhitching and it shuts the compressor off until the door is closed.

Yha, the on board compressor is slow as **** for airing up 37's. But for towing its a dream, my toy hauler is ~6k pounds and the H2 with airbags tows it luxuriously.

Don't forget the blow up doll Twin [emoji39]

Ran the options today then got slammed. It is a lux edition and never had air suspension. Will email you tomorrow what has been done under warranty. Not much out of the ordinary

Oh yeah, didn't think I was supposed to post up about the blow-up doll---admins get their panties in a bunch every time I mention that because the 3's never got air suspension. :giggle:

Not my fault I bought my deuce with air so I could inflate stuff........

Thanks Zach. I hadn't seen anything that indicated I had the air option. Thats ok. Just one more thing to break. We're doing a road trip to Tampa next week so I'll get to see how she handles the open road. Not worried about milage. My other two cars don't get good milage either but the H2 will be way more comfortable.
