Nice rig.. Some nice modifications you have going on there... I am looking to set up a computer on my rig also.. Just going to be done over time though.. Nice thread...

Well with the international restraining order in place I have been able to get back to work and bend over to do things with out worrying Gunner_45 was doing a papparazi with a telephoto lens.
Back on the trail of storing things efficiently and came up with this to carry my Tripod. Bit of bent ally and some neoprene strip with adhesive on one side to protect the tripod.
The little occy's are the ball end type to make it easy to clip in and out.

Also got onto the ladder issue and came up with this which is light and folds flat.
The other issue is that I needed to get to the top of the wheel as the best height especially for closing the roof top.

Still working my way through the list of things to be done before we leave.
Wanted to have easy access for the steps as they are the first things needed every over night stop.
Been held up for ages finishing the rocker rails and bash plates to protect the sill tanks.....finally, and am I happy to get this one off the list , but very happy with the end result.

Not sure if I mentioned that we will visit Maralinga....it is a place, not something Gunner_45 can have fixed with a penicillin shot..,the site of the British nuclear testing in the 50's/60's.

Thought it might be a good time to update how all of my mods survived the big trip.
Had a bit of collateral damage on the Centre Line Track. One tyre was staked twice and has a single plug repair on the inside and a 4 plug repair on the outside wall. This became a 5 plug repair when it started to leak a bit in Perth but has not lost a psi all the way back to Brisbane.
Most damage was caused by my UHF ariel/hieght gauge which crashed back against the passenger’s mud guard leading edge. At limes it was being flexed back to almost 90 degrees. I'll make up a urethane cover/guard for future trips. Apart from losing the black tip, the ariel was not affected at all as it was the aluminum extension hitting the guard.
Top commendation must go to Safari snorkels as the snorkel took a hammer from the squillion branches and nothing more than some scratches..
Very happy with my snorkel adaptor for the Sy Klone pre cleaner given that Martyn lost his on the same track.
The roof rack got a few scratches as well but structurally was sound as..
The side mirrors didn't take long to be folded back flat and the passengers was puntured by a branch..
Had a small problem will diesel getting into the auxillary tank breather line due to over filling but a quick blow out and that was hunky dory. Sliders and bash plates worked a treat, bullbar handled the trees and everything else thrown at it with easy, blew a relay on the spotties the last morning after a really early start. All the mods I did specifically for the trip worked really well with everything being easily accessible.
Biggest worry going into the trip was how the big screen of the car PC would handle the heavy corrugations and I was really happy. On the really bad sections of the Anne Beadell the whole dash took on the appearance of jelly on a wiggle board that was about to land in your lap but other than that it was fantastic. Ozi Explorer was a pleasure to use.
All in all, very happy with the way the mods held up under pretty extreme conditions.

Glad to hear you are back safe & sound Nugget. For where you have been the damage is minimal. Looks like your great planning & fabrication payed off handsomely, well done!!!

The most interesting mechanical story was inevitably suspension. I run OME shocks and had planned to replace all shocks at the end of this trip as they would have done 2 full on trips.
Whilst in Karratha I got the truck up on a hoist just for a preventative check and was quite surprised that the front OME shocks and particularly the front passenger had turned from yellow to black. In fact it appeared that the shock had gotten so hot that it had heat burnt the paint. The shock was still operating fine, there was no oil loss and the bushes were in really good nick given the treatment they had had.
A check with OME and they confirmed that this could happen especially when a lot of heavy slow speed work is done as there is little air flow to cool the shock. As a measure of good faith they sent a replacement set to Alice Springs where the ARB store fitted them when I got there.
Inevitably everyone has there own preferences on shocks….even the local TJM guy refuses to fit TJM or ARB shocks and swore by Tough Dogs. I must admit I am pretty impressed with the fact the OME’s were still operating perfectly despite the appearance and the extreme work I know they had done.
On the way into Alice Springs the rear bushes had disintegrated and whilst I thought I had a full set, I actually had a full set of fronts and tops only for the backs. Luckily ARB had some and threw them whilst the truck was on the hoist.
