Pictures & Trail Reports

This is the second half of the H3's last trip. Took it into the mountains out Mt Isa to an area of disused copper mines. The tracks are just that..tracks with no real activity in the area for 40-50 years.

Camped nearby for lunch.....healthy stuff sort of

thought i saw gunner.45 airing his feathers as he is known to in the hood, but it was just another shag on rock

Tucker bell was ringing and I thought there should be a splash up burger to see the faithful off

Final touches in the camp kithcen being used for the last time

Feral locals swarmed in and buggered up a nice camp site with generators, flood lights and music to chuck up by. About the only thing they left home was the disco ball!

This where I should have camped but didn't find it until the next day

Time to start getting into the serious country

Thought this might be a novel solution...wrong...only lasted one pump of the brakes...

A beer bottle top can to the rescue. Cut a small disc with the side cutters and it lasted the 1,700kms home!

Well that's it folks.....my last trip in the H3. Has been challenging, rewarding and above all else, fun.

No one reason but basically I normally change cars every 3 to 4 years, I had done about everything that I could to the H3 and a new vehicle gave me a new " blank canvas" as it were and most importantly I really require a diesel for the trips I want to do in the next 3 years.:)

Ahh ok, i just didnt know if it broke down and you didnt want to repair it, or if it was because they stopped making them. But that is cool, i like that you do that to vehicles over and over, its fun!

Another awesome Nugget trip report. That was a great rig, easily one of my favorites throughout my years in the Hummer world.

I'm just the opposite - I will keep a vehicle and continue to upgrade and modify it to suit my needs pretty much indefinitely.

I understand about the diesel thing though

Yep that is the other way but there wasn't much else to do and I find that cars are sort of like phases in your life..perfect for a period but then things change. In the life of the 110 I want to do some really, really remote touring so I was looking for different things in the truck. Diesel was non negotiable as petrol is just not available in most really remote areas.

The H3 was a fantastic truck but certainly the end of a Hummer didn't help. Values dropped quicker then a whores drawers here as many people didn't understand Hummer anyway and it just gave another excuse to give crap trade in.

Thanks for sharing that adventure.. Hopefully soon I can go on a adventure of my own. Enjoy your new truck, as I am sure that you will.

You're replacing the H3 with a diesel 110? Or did you have a 110 before you had the H3?

I bought the 110 and decided to sell the H3 privately..which took 10 months. I was almost ready to stick it in a shipping container and give it to Gunner_45 but decided that would have been unfair on the H3 which had been a trusted and loyal servant and didn't deserve such a fate:)
