I understand that he has to wait until he graduates but still...... Then comes the job, the wedding, the dog, the kids, the house and next thing you know you are 50 and haven't been to Moab. Hans, you better get that first post graduation Moab trip planned right away buddy.

I do need to get out there, though. I graduate in May...what is the first trip after that?? I'll start planting the seeds in my brain now so that by next summer I'll be foaming at the mouth for red rock.

Tell me about it. I love most of the trails that we have been on and look forward to running a few of them each year but that leaves less time for new trails and there are lots of them we haven't even gotten to yet.

yea i have a dilemma. I might be able to escape for 2 days or say on this trip. Most likely make it for friday and saturday (arrive thurs. night). But i feel like i won't want to leave. Or just go in april-ish and stay for the week. Options... options...

Date for Spring usually depends on Easter. I believe we start after Jeep week, which ends on Easter Sunday....

I better ask before planning this all out. Will NO dogs on this trail be an issue? There are no dogs allowed on the White Rim Trail, and it is heavily patrolled by the NPS park rangers. You can legally do Potash to Shafer trail, but can't make the turn off Potash onto White Rim.
So, is this going to be a problem on Sunday?

Doug, as you may recall we were stopped last time by the rangers as we were a "group" which I think was 3+ vehicles and we didn't have a permit. We spread out with 1/4 mile between trucks to circumvent that rule

I'll double check with the head park ranger, who owes me a favor, but when you were here in the spring, permits were required for even one vehicle due to a special monitoring of the white rim. That special montoring ended on around end of April or May. In fact, I went out there after you guys were here, and I obtained a permit to make it legal for even one vehicle.
It used to be the same as BLM, commerical trips or groups larger than 25 required a permit, and maximum of three trucks; 15 people for camping on the white rim.
From their website:
Permits are required for all overnight trips along the White Rim. During the spring and fall, demand for permits frequently exceeds the number available. If you plan to visit Canyonlands during peak season, it is recommended that you make reservations well in advance.
