2007 3.7 H3, a one year only Motor- is a hard year to find.

2008-2010 H3 used the 3.7 but changed PCMs, sensors and the way the various computer systems communicate with each other.

It's possible to swap an 08 or newer...But it would cost much more $$$ and be way more labor intensive

Not exactly correct. Motor was basically the same (some natural refinements were made); the controllers were different. Sensors read the same, just by a different boxes.
Going back in an old memory....

One model year used a combined PCM (powertrain control module); called a POWERTRAIN control module cause it contained both the engine and trans controlling functions. Another model year used two separate modules called an ECM (engine control module) and a TCM (trans control module). However ECT, TPS, etc., sensors read the same and supplied the same signals to the modules whether one or two separate.

Due to module differences, wiring was naturally unique since wire were going to a different number of modules.

But if the old memory still works, there should be no reason why the ENGINE/Motor, whatever people want to call it could not be swapped.

Believe that was basically the only differences; however, not sure and not about to go to another computer and look up all the info I have stored about the Hummer H3; which is basically everything GM service engineering had in regard to the vehicle. :shame:

The only significant difference I've ever come across was when I was trying to find an exhaust camshaft position sensor on my '08. They don't have one. That's pretty minor though. Not really what I would classify as a "different engine".

Yes, 08 engine's will be hard to come by. If the sales data I looked at is correct, GM sold about half as many 08's (compared to 07), and a fraction 09's and just a few 10's. Probably more 07's out there than all of 08-10s combined. Sales nose-dived due to the collapse of the economy. There should be quite a few 07 engine's available (eventually). But that's good to know about the differences.

I wish we had "stickied" threads on the forum I've gone over this before a couple times and even linked to the colorado forum to explain how to do the swap. They have a how to thread. The 2008 motor is 56x and the earlier 3.5/3.7 are 24x.
