So is there any advantages to the series 40?... I have the intake and I have the 2.5" cat pipe and I'm planing on getting my resonator off..... Jus trying to see if that exhaust is A all around good one....

I had a flow master 40 series on my chevy blazer and I liked it. It should give you a couple more hp, especially if you cut the resonator of too. I think flowmaster is a pretty good exhaust and that is most likely what I am going to put on

Jonbishop, I have the magnaflow and like it, no one in so cal has a flowmaster on their H3 so I am not sure but craig did remove the resonator so he may give you a good review on that. I do know that generally getting rid of the resonator gives more of a drone in the cab. Some like that drone others hate it, its a personal preference thing...

I thought people would gut the cat on the mainafold?
You'll have to overcome the issues with the O2 sensor sending a red flag and also the altering of the engine performance based on the O2 indication...not pretty...The final Cat you can eliminate, because there is no O2 sensor afterwards.

So what's the verdict on the Super Sparkz Ron46?

I like them and I would recommend them, they smoothed out my idle and lowered my idle too. It feels like it gives a little bit more power, but nothing huge, but for $35, I would definitely get them.

Just put in the new AC Delco Iridium plugs and the Super Sparks spring delete. Install was straightforward and easy. Engine sounds smooth, felt a little peppier first time I drove it. Just filled the tank, will give an update after I put some miles in with the new mods.

Throttle Body Spacers = useless. DO NOT waste your $.

Jet modules and the like vs PCM tune, go with the PCM tune, it is the real deal full package. You V8 guys also have the Cortex Super Tuner type options as well.

Plugs and the SuperSparkz are not going to make power, but they can help with burn efficiency and can affect idle quality. The PCM is looking for optimal burn at all times, so this can help. Night and day, not really, but it can help. For the cost, nothing wrong with the SuperSparkz.

Port polished TBs are a great bang for the buck, super easy to install.

Doing a header has a low bang to buck ratio, you are going to have to play with the band and position of the downstream O2 sensor to avoid the CEL and maintain best fuel economy. The install will take hours, (and if any of you have worked on the I5 motor you know this,) you play roulette with the risk of breaking of manifold bolts in the head. In fact, plan on it. Not the end of the world, but super time consuming drilling out the old bolt, chase and tap for the new one.

The rest: Intake, PCM tune, Cat back exhaust, Efan conversion are all pretty simple, and work well together as a package.

What happened to H3Slates update on MPG and efficiency.

Whoops!! I guess I didn't update because I didn't notice a big difference. I have the supersparks spring delete and the ported throttle body. I was having some engine issues when I installed the throttle body, which was caused by a loose intake manifold. The engine runs smooth now, and I do notice increased throttle response at higher rpms. I didn't notice a difference at the lower rpms which is what I was looking for.

My mileage on 35's with a roof rack and non-adjusted speedometer is 13.5 mpg. That is a mix of short freeway trips and city driving.

I was getting 12 mpg before the mods and fix of the intake manifold vacuum leak.

Thanks for the fast response... Yeah, not much to be done in our cases.. Seems like the PCM tune, Cat back exhaust, Efan conversion would be the route of choice for me.. Just is not in the cards at the moment due in part of no fundage for the mods right now......:gaah:

I think the PCM tune is the next mod for me. Might do the e-fan someday, just don't want a fan that is really loud.

The supersparkz mod sounds interesting, not for power but a nicer idle...the 06s are known for that rough idle.

I'm going to give the Pulstar's a shot(I'm on my second set of OEM factory iridiums now), just ordered them on Amazon. I have the PCMforLess tune, a Green(K&N type) Filter, and a Magnaflow Cat-Back. I may end up having my cat replaced with a unit that flows a little better, but I'm looking for a serious upgrade in horsepower. The thought has crossed my mind to trade my H3 in for an Alpha, and keep the compatible parts(beadlocks, lift kit, etc), but I want to try exhausting all options for the I5 before going that route. I am really interested in like a 6 psi supercharger kit for it, I think it'd be worth the 40-50HP that I am looking for, and the altitude performance(It becomes a PIG at 10,000 ft, but at sea level there is plenty of power). Outside of the pulstars, does anyone have any ideas? I see that most supercharger kits for the I5 were discontinued, was this due to a lack of interest in the market, or were people just blowing up I5's all over the place after installing them?

any comments greatly appreciated.

Forget motor mods. If you really want to improve performance...leave the 5-cyl. alone and just install 5.13 gears. You'll love em!

I'm running with 4.56's for now, which is the adventure package. I have sized-up my tires to 35's, so gears would make a lot of sense. Can 5.13's be put into the stock front differential(ive got the cast iron), and can they be put in the rear? By my estimates, running 5.13's would give me about a 12% increase in torque for any given speed(below redline), PLUS the added torque from being higher in the powerband. What is the cost of a swap to 5.13's if its even possible without running new diffs(which is real $$$). I'm thinking that for $3k if I can add 50HP(20%), then I might be better off, but from a reliability standpoint, I see that 5.13's are going to lower strain on the motor, and I dont really go faster than 75 anyways.....
