Has the propane cost gone crazy every where or is this just an Iowa and Midwest thing. Last month $1.89 a gallon. Then it got up to $4.89 a gallon. My tank is less then 20% but I am scared to get it filled.
I'm about to start burning furniture for heat.

Can't you buy a contract to lock in your price in the summer? We use a lot more volume at work but we contracted in July at $1.48/gal. This seems to be the never ending winter here in the Midwest.

Yeah, I just had to fill up mine. Paid $1.70 in the spring and just paid $3.68..... I about blew a gasket.. Thats 1200 up in flames, so to speak.... Luckily I have a wood stove to help supplement my heating costs...

Well I heard some people that had the prepaid contract were told that they can't honor it and they had to pay the higher price. I have never prepaid and the cost has never more then doubled the whole year. I told the wife this year we need to prepay. But for someone reason we never make the June or July deadline. I guess we tend to forget about it. What ever is left in April gets my thru till october.

Kinda makes you wish you could heat with natural gas. Currently, NG is 1/5 to 1/8th the price of oil and LP for a Btu-equivalent quantity.

Here in AZ heat is cheap, simply because you don't need much. Most homes are heated with electric heat pumps, while the rest use natural gas. A few use solar as well. OTOH, our electric bills in the summer to run the AC are just as bad as your winter heating bills, so we can relate to your pain :(

I just talked my friend in Bishop CA last night. He said propane is going through the roof due to the high demand from the east coast during that Arctic blast.
