I had my windshield replaced over a year ago, meaning that damn plastic piece has been making noise since then--I was just too lazy to see what it takes to fix. I know there are alot of posts on this topic, but I wanted to refresh for the new HUMMER owners who haven't dealt with the problem.
I was at a buddy's house today with my tool bag in the passenger seat and waiting on him, so I figured what better time to have a look at it as everything was in place---I was standing right there and my tools were right there.
There are TWO philips head screws on the door side of the trim under the top rubber door seal when the door is open. Remove those screws and pop off the trim---wow, that was easy. Once the trim is off there is some foam stuck along the length of the trim, about 18". Mine was compressed and dryed out and what I feel is the culprit for the annoying noise. With the stars really aligned in my favor, I had to go to the hardware store anyway, so I took the trim with me and asked the guy if they had that kind of foam. I replaced the old stuff with some new self stick foam and put a couple tiny pieces on a few other parts of the trim that had some kind of thick tape on it, I figured those must also be contact surfaces. I put the trim piece back on, two screws back in and door rubber back in.
It took less time than it took me to type this out----that was easy!
This story is for those guys/gals with this problem but not sure where to start to fix it. Hope it helps somebody!
