Hi from a SoCal Newbie!

Hi Everyone & Merry Christmas!! How many others are there from Southern CA? I joined the forum earlier this year but haven't had time to be online much since. Finally getting some time off from work for the holidays.. I just bought the H3 in Aug this year and loving it so far! Hit a few local trails between here and Big Bear since I bought it. Unfortunately I already fell victim to the weak inner tie rod, luckily not too far from home. I used to be a Jeep owner, but just didn't get enough use out of it since I couldn't even fit all the kids in it. I really love the capabilities of the H3 since I bought it, a lot of bang for the buck with the Adventure package! Itching to get a winch on it and really put it to the test, just have to recover from Christmas $$ hangover!

I'm very interested in hitting local desert and mountain trails, and looking forward to getting some more offroad pics to post SOON!!

Take care,
Brian

Welcome from Orange County. We should have a run coming up in the next month or so. Hoping to get a snow run up in Big Bear this year

Welcome to H4O from another So Calian.

Are you still running the stock 14 mm tie rods? If so, you might want to upgrade to the 16 mm tie rods.

Thanks everyone for the hospitality!

Hi Portager, that is some excellent information. I'm sure I'm still running stock 14mm since the outer tie rods are original and I only had one option from parts stores. Of course I snapped the tie rod on a weekend. Auto parts stores don't even carry the outer tie rod so you're stuck with either waiting until Monday to go to the dealer or buying what was available. I was searching for upgrade options when I did it and came up with nothing other than Bullet Proof tie rod kits and didn't have $800 to throw at it. I didn't realize there was an option of 16mm vs 14mm. Mine snapped at the threads near the outer tie-rod. Has anyone had any problems with the 16mm? If I can't find any issues I'd lean towards trying changing the inner/outer with those. The last thing I want to do is deal with another trail fix, or worse loss of steering on a steep incline. I want to fix it right but if I can avoid dumping $800 into it, that is the route I'd like to take.. But again would rather cough up the $800 than change out to 16mm and end up changing them out anyway. I am running 35's, so there is obviously more travel than stock. Thanks!
