Hello everyone, so my sunroof gear dripped and I came across this one on eBay made in turkey. (See pic) I ordered it today and I will post the results after I revive and install it. wanted to pass the info along to anyone in need. cheers, T-
Curious to see how it works for you. I have no interest in dropping my headliner to determine what might be wrong and to see what parts are not available for me.
The more I saw people’s sunroofs messing up, the less and less I used mine. I pulled the fuse on mine last week. Piggybacking on alrocks statement, I too have no interest on going through the trouble.
I like mine although I rarely open it being in the PNW other than to clean and lube the tracks. Black truck, black interior makes it less like being in a cave. Whoever designed the drain system though should be punched in the head repeatedly.
I wish we had taken more pictures but due to being in a rush we were we didnt get a chance. Its just an afternoon job to pull headliner and swap out the entire sunroof assembly clean everything nicely and put back together. At least where we are you can get a full junkyard take out assembly in great condition for under $250
My new motor gear came in today & it took me about 3 hrs to do the job.
I am posting pics of the process.
I didn't have to remove the entire head liner. only the sun visors retainer screws, a-pilars and the hold handle.
I had to disassemble the motor, clean and regrease everything.
I am still having some relearn issues but that's ok. all in all it works again. only cost me $17.80 and 3 hrs of my time.
That to me sure beats the $40 from the sunroof company and $350 for a new motor.
I hope this help anyone in the same situation.
Looks good. Thanks for sharing the nice tutorial and pics! I just ordered a new gear. I just know sooner or later mine's going to crap out, and then a cheap one probably won't be available.
It looks like water might have been getting in on the motor and possibly into the gear, by the looks of some corrosion on the motor. Does that sound right, or am I not seeing things correctly? Do you think water intrusion (leaking sunroof) was/is the root cause? Or could it have been a weak gear, or frozen-down sunroof or some excessive strain event which caused the gear to strip?
