Running offroad yesterday (nothing too major, mostly fire roads with some decent ruts and ledges) in 4HI LOCK for about 2 hours. Suddenly got SERVICE STAB SYS -- TRACTION FAILED -- REDUCED POWER message on the dash, along with CEL and Stabilitrac light. Luckily, I was already past the tougher sections and had only smooth dirt roads left; nursed it home, checked the codes; P0106-Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure/Circuit Range/Performance, P0452-Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Low, P0641-Sensor Reference Voltage A Circuit Open. Clearing the codes doesn't change anything, it immediately throws them again when you start it up.
So then I tried pulling a few fuses (BCM, TCM, PCM) for a few minutes and reinstalling them, and pulled the battery negative cable too. Waited a few minutes, then reinstalled (boy those battery cable ends suck, don’t they?) Now it wouldn't even start; just cranks. Cleared the codes again, and it started, but ran very rough, misfiring, and then died. Now it will sometimes start, most times not start. When it does start, it bucks and misses, then often dies and won't restart. Clearing the codes seems to allow it to start again, but immediately acts up and throws codes again. WTF?
Another strange thing, maybe related maybe not; sometimes when you try to start it, it keeps cranking even after you release the key back into the run position. I have to turn the key back to ACC for the starter to stop cranking. It’s never done that before.
Still under the limited warranty from the dealer I bought it from just 2 weeks ago; they want me to tow it to their shop on Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not something major since the warranty only covers 50% of parts & labor.
OK, update. I went out this morning and the truck started right up, smooth idle, no messages in the DIC on the dash. Still had the CEL but no Stabilitrac light. Drove it up the street and back and seemed to run perfect. So I plugged in my scan tool; Same codes again: P0106, P0452 (twice?), P0641. However, this time when I cleared the codes, they stayed cleared. Drove it around the block a few times, switching from 4HI to 4HI Lock and back, turned the Stabiltrac off and on... Running perfect, no codes, no CEL, no error messages. What the H3LL is going on? Still gonna take it in to the shop on Monday for a once over, but not confident that anything will be found now. At least I don't have to tow it in. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
