Was: Double body lift 2 inches / Now: H3 suspension lift discussion

My truck has a 1" body lift installed. With the Rancho price and availability, I've come to terms with the fact that I won't be getting it at all.
+ shaving an inch off suspension travel with the Rancho isn't ideal when all our off-roading happens on the dunes at high speeds. We need every bit of travel possible.

So, now considering adding another inch to the body lift. The frame stays low, centre of gravity isn't too affected and I retain stock wheel travel.
What are your experiences with this?

Longer bolts, what length and grade?
brake line extensions?

Is there something else I'm missing?

What would be the point? You can fit and use 37" tires with a 1" body lift and torsion bar adjustment. 1" extra on the body would simply move your center of gravity up a little more without offering any additional benefits to off road? 2 options left to any of us now that Rancho went up in smoke. SAS or custom long travel. Personally I like the idea of a custom long travel like Bebe on here.

Thanks, totally agree.
I love the idea of custom long travel.. Its all I want from life after the V8 swap.
No one here is prepared to go into the SAS job.. & I lack the knowhow.
The 2" would purely be cosmetic.
But you're right, maybe I should just go with the 36" BFGOODRICH tires and leave it at that.

Double body lift 2 inches

I encourage the idea of group funding the R&D of Long travel for our 3.
Maybe taking Bebe's as a base and making it into a kit?
Talking from a place of ignorance here but it would be nice.

I just hijacked my own thread.

Me and humvee tend to get the fenders stuffed when doing high speed desert runs. We have a 1" body lift and are running spaced out wheels for more stability. To run a tire bigger than 315 will require 1" extra B.L. in order not to destroy the fenders at heavy landings on our vehicles.

I have been in contact with CWF Off Road in California about creating a long travel setup but they would like to do a 4.5" wider on each side and I would want nothing more than 2.0 wider on each side. When you go very wide like 4.5 you need fiberglass fenders etc. This is not the way I feel a Hummer H3 should look unless it is a full on race vehicle. HM Racing Design in California will also do a 2.0 custom designed kit but they need a vehicle for research and design for a few months and mine is a daily driver.... I would expect this to be a very heavy fabricating kit much like a SAS due to changing the front axle over to a Dynatrac IFS Dana 60 axle. Cost would be in the $15k range at least with 10"-14" of travel.

I guess no one said it would be cheap but jeez!
Theres a $15,000 line between a hobby and Baja racing.
For us, wider is better on the dunes.

A 2" body lift not only looks ridiculous but, it also stretches all the frame-to-body connections to the limit. You would need a custom steering shaft for sure. You would also need to do something about the radiator shroud, ground straps, shifter linkage, e-brake cable, tranny lines, misc. wiring harnesses, diff vent lines, and some filler panels for the bumpers.

Look on the bright side...there might be enough room in the tranny tunnel for a 4L80E!

Also very true. Shouldn't be stretching these components to the limit at a time when parts aren't available.
This closes the discussion for me at least. Will explore bigger tires.

HUMVEE- Price a turn-key Baja truck, you have $175K lying around? Maybe you want used? Loren Healey's KOH winning buggy is for sale on Jimmy's website for a super-cheap $75k (post season rebuild). A buddy of mine bought one of Jimmy's used buggies for about $60k and qualified to take it to KOH back around 2013 or 2014. $15K is a pretty good price for what those guys want to build, especially considering the DynaTrac D60.

Could we ask a moderator to change the title of this thread to something more fitting? "suspension lift discussion"?

You're 100% right, but being only a mild off road enthusiast, I'd probably use that sort of money to buy 2 villas in GOA instead. Other truck owners have sub $5k options for a decent LT kit.
We're not that fortunate, so I'm with GreatDane, joining the 1" 37s club. But more like 36s with limit straps club. :)

You can't be scared of an SAS if you've pulled off an engine swap. Against forum rules.

I feel like I've accomplished something special C.
After my truck's downtime on the V8 swap, I'd love to be able to buy a full wheel to wheel SAS kit that includes everything I need. Much like the Rancho.

How does a Rancho shave off 1" of travel?

Rancho shocks have less travel. I don't know why they designed their factory rancho replacement AND rancho lift shocks with less travel then stock H3 shocks....I have bilsteins sitting in the garage that will increase the travel and work with the rancho. I used them on my rancho until I SASed it

This is tempting. Shipping to Doha and installation would bump it up to around 9k.. 10k with rear deaver springs.
Wish my money was where my mouth is, its a pretty sweet deal

This one used the universal AntiRock sway bars in the front, is there a way to incorporate this into the Thorparts kit along with shocks so it is a finished all in one package? King Shocks or Fox Racing Shocks?
