There is so much information here and it can be overwhelming. I was wondering what recommended Mods should be done. I am looking for a list of what should be done from 1 - 10. With so many experienced H3 Mod experts, I am wondering how different the lists will be and in what order the mods would be done. At the end maybe I can write a book dummy for H3 Mods.

Well by mods most ppl do certain mods to help in their environment or where they go off-roading so like for example if you want it to look higher id go with a torsion bar crank really simple and quick and then get an alignment after and your h3 is leveled so that looks really good. Another important thing is tires which will help you offroad i go mud riding so i got mud terrains for that gummy mud in Louisiana so idk what you do with your h3 or where so choose the tires which meet your needs. Another thing is if you do take it off-roading then you should get ucp "under carriage protection" to protect the belly of the beast lol. So thats what is suggested if you take it off-roading from my opinion. Big unit or somebody will have a more informative input than mine tho[emoji106].

Like banana and rsc said, it totally depends on what you plan on doing with your h3 and where you want to take it, have to decide for yourself. From a functional standpoint, assorted underbody protection and good tires should be first on your list, along with recovery equipment, after that, go with whatever pleases you.

Great start banantank. I would add rock rails/sliders to the list as well as a set of Hummer skids if your top 10 list is for someone who intends to do some wheeling. I would then suggest essential things you should have if you go wheeling (not necessarily in this order but nonetheless on the list) - spare CV, tie rods, tools, a good jack, tow straps, air compressor, tire repair kit, winch, steering rack, etc., then later lockers, 4:1 transfer case, cast iron front diff, and then, on to engine/performance mods...the list will keep growing and evolving a you go.

If you don't really don't plan to do any wheeling, then the list of priorities would be very different - engine/performance or cosmetic mods - and in that case, there's no need to ditch your Nerf bars! :D

^2X, I'm still workin on 4:1 TC, at least rear locker, front diff and steerin rack/ bracket.

I did protection and self recovery first and slowly workin on the others. W/ that done first, I'm still wheelin and my wish list only gets bigger...

You wheelin, will tell you what you want or need.

I agree with what everyone said. Basics first. Protection and means to fix damage (parts and tools). Some basic recovery gear and a buddy or 2 to wheel with. With this, you'll be able to get out there and hopefully get back safely. The rest is things to push your truck and yourself harder without as big of a risk of breaking. Biggest of all is common sense. You gotta go forth with some reasoning skills. You're not gonna tackle the same stuff as a fully built rig so understand that. It's not a bad thing. You gotta understand what your truck will and won't do. Pushing it outside it's limits is usually what breaks stuff. Get the basics to get out and back safely. Then start prioritizing what your goals and expectations are. Tires will help you a lot more than light bars will. A 4:1 t-case will benefit you more than a set of fancy rims. Everyone has a different list and different priorities. Read through some build threads and see what's out there. My personal list would be...
A good thorough tuneup
Protection
Tools/spares/gear
Tires
"Beef up" items (steering rack bracket)
You gotta have a good platform to start with so make sure your truck is in good working order. No leaks, good brakes, good shocks, etc.
After you get the basics done, you can start going nuts. Racks, lights, lifts, bumpers and anything you feel like deserves your hard earned $$$....

I need to do bumpers, mine are so beyond beat. The front bumper has holes in the plastic from rocks and has tons of movement due to broken mounting points. Both front and rear bumpers are pressed up against the frame rails.

I vote for protection first.

My first mod was rock rails. Second was my custom UCP. Diff crossmember, steering rack bracket came later. My only major break so far was the t-case. I'm a cautious wheeler, works for me so far.

Steering Rack Brace/Bushing Upgrade should be your first. Then all the off road stuff

being cautious is the way to go. When people say Dana 30s cant handle anything more then 33s and dana 44s are only good for 35s, or our AAM-7s are only good for 33s, dana 35s can only handle stock tires, the list goes on. I would say its all BS if your cautious. I have seen first hand 35s last on dana 35s all day long on tough trails. If you wheel like an idiot then yes break out the cash and go get big ass axles.

I have seen big tires tires on small axles last on the same trails that bigger tires and bigger axles cant handle all due to driving style. Big axles come into play when the trails you do need you to bump up everythng with wheelspin but by then you should have a cage, not be afraid of body damage and big buck repairs.

A set of Thorparts bumpers WILL NOT dissappoint.... I freakin love mine. My winch will be here Tuesday and I'll post up some pics.

Great stuff, Thank you all!!! I have been reading all the builds that are posted; they are so fascinating and addicting to read but it is hard for me to decide where to begin. I have owned my Hummer 4yrs now and will now start with the Mods and just want to get advice from the pros. I am sure if you all could go back and start over you guys would change the order of certain mods. In the end I guess I am trying to avoid common pitfalls/waste of money that are not necessary.

Biggest waste of money out there is the leveling kits. You don't need em... You may come across certain things that you find at a good price so you gotta jump on em. There's no right or wrong way to mod your truck. Just do what makes you happy. It's your truck. Have fun with it.

Lucky I don't have to deal with that, my H3 is lifted on 36 military tires. i want to take my truck to the next level and all this info will help great.

I want to be able to do a little bit of everything and so far so good. I am planning a trip in the near future to oceana dunes and will see how that goes. I am not a hardcore wheeler but I want to upgrade enough to maximize that 5 cylinder.
