What did you do with your H3 recently? NEW

Hey Ghostbuster,
Cuting off the muffler (whether you install the 50 series or not) will only make more noise without a measureable performance enhancement. To improve power and economy, the crossover that goes from the left bank under the t'case tail shaft to join the other pipe has to be replaced. If you take a careful look, that pipe is crimped to the point of super restriction. One of the reasons it is crushed so deeply is to make room for the strapped on heat shield. If you don't want to invest in a catback such as MAGNEFLOW , a good exhaust shop can build a 2 1/2 inch crossover without the restrictive crimps. In either case, grab some DEI Titanium exhaust wrap because of the closeness to the wiring etc.. One engineer stated that this was the SINGLE item that made the 5.3 in the H3 to be rated with less horsepower than other GM 5.3's of the same vintage and also code 0420 showing up more frequently in the left bank.

Yeah I noticed that nice squished pipe.

The Flowmaster is already on.

Not the best weld job, but it is on. I can't hear any leaks.

It is pretty quiet.

Geez guys, go take a nap or something, you're both partly right. If anyone thinks that using the parking pawl by itself is sufficient, then either you live where there are no hills, or you just don't understand how automatics work. You should always be using the foot (or if it's another vehicle the hand) actuated parking brake which uses a second set of pads inside the rear brakes to hold the vehicle in place.

Newer cars are eliminating the manual parking brake and instead are using the electrically assisted main brakes to apply and hold pressure on all four wheels using the main brakes. The Ford Fusion rental car I drove in NH had this, you push a switch and it applies the brakes for the parking brake and holds them in place. It's a smart idea really.

interesting - at one time it was required by law that there was a mechanical (not hydraulic) brake which would hold cars. I wonder how Ford got around that? To remind, big trucks - the brakes 'rest' in the engaged position until air pressure pulls them away. Many vehicles use transmission or transfer case brakes but both have the added distinction of failing closed then not having enough pressure to keep the vehicle from moving (my parent's motorhome has this one covered).

The problem with hydraulic brakes is if the brake system fails - you no longer have a parking brake either.... so I wonder at how Ford got around it or if the law changed...

both part right? ummm... I was completely right - that 4L60e transmissions have a parking prawl. I made no comment about its sufficiency or adequacy.

For the brief time the video lasts, your 50 sounds really good. Bet it is really nice in real time and it looks good too. The resonator in front of the axle is zero restrictive so it appears that in combo with the 50 you have a sweet combo. Congrats!

This is what did you do with your H3 recently not how do parking brakes work on modern vehicles etc... blah blah blah. Today I pulled off the door panel to start looking at what kind of molds I would need in order to make a light weight H3 driver / passenger carbon fiber door. I subscribe to CJ's thinking of the more weight you could remove from the H3 the better.

Thanks. I wonder what it would sound like if I cut the resonator out. That muffler I put on is supposed to have sort of an internal resonator. Well that is what some YouTube video said.

I just installed these Sylvania 3157 LED bulbs for my backup lights, and while they're bright as hell and work great, it seems to have tricked the circuit into leaving my rear view camera out full time. Here i'm in drive, and the camera is out.

It's kinda distracting, but believe it or not helps a bit with blind spots!

I had the same issue when I converted my backup lights to LEDs. Adding a resister across the leads on just one side (no need to do both) adds enough load to fool the system and restore the correct operation (if you want it restored).

However I'm having a little trouble with the cables, if any of u cable gurus could shine some light on me on where these highly cables go I'd really appreciate it.

This is exactly what I did, but I had to put the CB radio on the top because it wouldn't fit on the bottom. It was too long and hit the support bracket in the back. I have the same CB radio as you.

I'm no guru, but you should buy a harness for the wiring if you haven't already, makes life 100x easier when wiring new headunits. I used a GM-4004 harness, I know it was not the "hummer h3 harness" which is 100$, the harness I used was about 5$ thanks to derian06 giving me a few pointers

It's truly plug and play, all you need to do after you connect all of the wires by color, is run the red wire (power) to the fuse box, I wired mine using a fuse tap to the ignition fuse so it only sends power when the key is in the ignition position.

And, I know I just posted this on my build thread, so if anyone wants to hear more in depth about my install you can check it out there, but I just installed an 8000lb synthetic winch, 2.5" shackles, re-Herculined my fenders, and did an oil change within the past few days!

Cool, so color coding everything from the back of the harness into the back of the head unit harness will be your first step, and you may have extra wires on the harness. Also you may or may not have to run the power wire to a fuse depending on which harness you have.

Hmm yeah it's definitely hard to be able to tell without seeing it in person, your best bet is to try and match everything that is color coded and the rest try and match by what they are supposed to send power to, showing it to someone with more knowledge would be your best bet
