Here are a couple pictures of the Cooper S/T's I was talking about. Pictured is a 305/70R16 (33X12.5) and as you can see its smack dab in between an AT and MT.

duratracs

Ive been running the 35" duratracs for about 50k miles and am about ready to replace them, the front axle wore quicker than the rear, but they still have plenty of tread left, I just
dont want to sacrifice grip offroad. Love them in the snow and ice, quiet enough on the road, IMO they are the only tire to buy. I ran the stock duelers prior in the 285 size.

We have several customers with Cooper S/T's that have 40K and a couple that have got almost 50K. The average I have seen is high 30's or low 40's and end up getting replaced because there not quite good enough for winter. Not sure what you did to only get 10k out of them but my guess is pressure, rotation, alignment, balance or a combination of them all. My 285’s had 5k on them when I sold them and there was no measurable wear.

Solarflare my durango was a pos lol and I beat on it pretty bad. I travel 80-100 miles a day for work and I have a heavy right foot. I was impressed with the traction in the snow with the coopers, I live north of pittsburgh and I had those durring the crazy snow that shut down the city for close to ten days. My dad also ran the same coopers on his e350 work truck and got about the same millage out of his. But his truck has the knaphide work box and weighs close to 10k with tools but we got them at the same time so.maybe just bad sets

:agree: I don't remember seeing those in the past.

How were the road mannerisms on those meats, for those of you who have had them.

Little louder then an AT but not as loud as an MT. They do growl a little at 55 but its not that bad. You don't feel the lugs like you would expect (or like you would with an MT) for such an aggressive tread pattern but the tread is tighter then an MT, so they don't clean as well in the mud (but its still much better then an AT in the mud). Wet road manor is slightly better then an MT but under really heavy breaking on wet roads they can tend to trigger the ABS but its minimal. I never tried mine in the snow but we have several customers running them year round and I haven’t heard a single complaint. The only complaint I have would be that they only have a 2 Ply sidewall and they lack of side bitters but you (and I) still have to remember there not an MT. The new ST MAXX has a 3 Ply sidewall and a little more aggressive sidewall but the sizes are very limited (just 265's and 285's, no 305 or 315's yet). Would I run them again? In a heart beat!

How did you like the Dick's? Those are one on my option list. Rain and pavement? Sand? Rocks?

Goodyear MT/R's with Kevlar are somewhat between an AT and MT tire IMO, and would be a good choice. I ran the Dick Cepek FC-II's which are also an AT/MT hybrid and they worked well both on the street and off road.

I'm running the nitto terra grappler. Not really aggressive tire, but been really happy. But then again in Arizona mud is a minimum. I have Toyo mt's on my duramax gmc, got about 40k out of them but they are noisy. Would have lasted longer if I didn't have alignment issues. Nitto is American made as well I believe.

Kelly TSR, made in USA. Siping, large voids, good on and off road.

I found that these actually handle better than the Duratracs on road in corners and are smoother and quieter to boot! I think the Duratracs cut through standing water a little better, but I didn't get much rain driving in with them in CenTex to really compare the two.

The tsr handle heavy rain just fine

Ya H@ll may as well throw my 2cents worth in too!
Ive tried many tires over the years and have read tons of user reviews and magazine reviews and I chose to pick a tire Id never owned before and it is pretty damn good. I got the Hancook Dyna pro Atm. Wanted the MT version but just like th OP needed a better street ride and snow handling.
Here are some links to other peoples thoughts about Dyna Pro Atm / MT.
