Don't feel left out brother. Isn't the reserve numbers what matters for wincing? Deep cycle benifets a winch right? Don't our trucks only require 640cca anyway? I think we are all setting pretty good.........:)

Derian is your oddessy battery a perfect stock fit? Do you want to retain the box? With all the moding you did with those hid lights a little battery box would be nothing for you buddy if you want a bigger battery and keep your box like I did.

The amazon shipping is great, it'll be at your door by tuesday. my odyssey is only 750CCA feeling the pain right now.

Definitely, LOVE Amazon shipping too... (Got my replacement axle shaft seal a few day after I'd ordered em') Did you get yours fully charged and ready to modify into your H3 or did you have to take it somewhere to get it charged some special way? (If I read right on a Battery info site, these types of batteries require some special way to charge or whatever...)

I just had to take out that triangle piece and I cut the strap. Other than that there wasn't much else to it.

I just put mine straight in and it was already charged. You don't really have to modify anything just drop it in and move anything thats blocking it.

Deep cycle batteries are good when you're running high amp drawing equipment aka a winch, stereo equipment, or anything onboard that draws a lot of amps. A deep cycle can go down and back up many many many times without any damage to the battery. Regular batteries aren't made to go up and down like that and they'll eventually go flat.

You can use a regular battery and a winch for light duty use, but if plan on using it a lot or have a high amp draw winch (like some Warn winches) then a deep cycle is the only way to go.

FWIW, I am sold on the Odyssey. After getting the Odyssey 34/78 and powering my winch, lights and ARB fridge freezer without an issues, I wouldn't get any other battery.

So are these AGM Batteries we have like the best I'd both worlds? I mean able to give the big CCA and deep cycle ability? Or are they just for starting?

Haha, yeah I finally took your advice and got the same one that you have. Do have a question for ya, How do those side posts work? Are they just like the top posts only with a bolt needing to go through em', and is that where the winch wires would hook up? (Once I finally get a winch that is...)

The dreaded battery debate. I only ever owned Optima's bought my first one in the early 90's never had an issue and have a dual set up in my 3 now.

The hot deal on AGM batteries right now is the Duralast Platinum AGM:

4

It is nothing other than a relabled Deka Intimidator AGM:

Now that I look, Remy Battery has the Deka cheaper than Autozone ($151.72), but shipping usually kills the deal...

BTW, the Deka is a dual purpose battery: starting and cycling.

Since we're on batteries, I remember somebody put a much larger battery in their H3 that's bigger than the factory tray. He didn't make a new tray. The battery just hung out over the edge. Does anyone remember who it was and what battery style or size it was?

I didn't want to start a new thread but which battery should I buy?
Optima red top 34/78 for around $147 off amazon, or a deka intimidator from remy for around $170 after shipping.

I don't think I need a $280 odyssey... I don't plan on getting a winch or anything.

Also what aftermarket terminals should I get?

I'd go with the deka Intimidator... Heard alot of negative things about Optima, some are good, other get bad batteries... hit or miss type thing... And on the terminals, I've read some guys go for Tsunami's, etc... (I'm just gunna find some military style terminals... Simple, strong and effective)

Optima, I have been running them for years with no issues. A lot of people bash them because they heard stories. As far as terminals, stay away from the set screw style, I tried a set ONCE. Over time, vibrations caused a loose connection. Military style are the way to go, besides, more options to add devices later.

Did I mention that the Autozone Platinum AGM is a relabled Deka Intimidator? So is the CarQuest Platinum AGM ;)

They look similar because they are all Deka Intimidators.

The 78 has no top posts. The 78DT has top posts and side posts. 34/78 is another way of saying 78DT AFAIK. The Diehard is a 78 (no top posts) while the rest are 78DTs.
