RTI is a useless #, its cool but not the end all be all. I have done plenty in my truck without flex. The H3s traction control allows you to do things on 3 wheels that would normally require 4. I have a sticker on the back of my truck and even though I have flex now it will stay. It says "Flex is overrated" mainly as an inside joke to a buddy who thinks flex is the end all be all. Flex helps but an H1 counteracts the argument. It flexes like a cinder block, it doesnt.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, but I guess I can see how the SOA changes that number too lol

Hmm it must have something to do with the wheel base.

If I use the stock h3 score of 447, that means it went up a 20* ramp 50 inches.

Assuming I could go the same distance if I factor in my wheel base of 132.4" I get a score of 372.5.

I think the guys told me to stop after a wheel spin a bit, not when I was at the point of a wheel lifting, thus the lower score


But like you guys said the RTI isn't what it's cracked up to be

So I figured out that they had a calculation issue and I scored a 402! So better then a stock H3T would have using my estimations above

I feel better now, even though I don't really care what the score is.... Just wanted a baseline before upcoming mods were done

So I went out wheeling with a new group today... We did one short trail then headed over to another staging area for the second trail of the day. Just as I pulled up I started to hear a rotating clunking sound in the front, nothing to severe, thought it could have been something bent into the drive shaft/propshaft. the sound only happens after I hit 8mph or so, anything below that makes no noise

So I jumped out, everything looked good, drove a few feet, still heard it, checked for play in the drive shaft, prop shaft and CV's... everything seemed tight.

Then checked each of the front wheel bearings by jacking up each side and seeing if there were any play... still nothing out of the norm.

I then took it out of 4lo lock and into 4hi lock, it continued to make the same sound. Then I tried AWD and the sound went away.

I figure its got to be the Tcase, but not sure what would cause it... perhaps the chain has stretched and is hitting the case once it gets spinning fast enough....????

Anyone have any hints or Ideas on what else to check?

I Am going to start with checking the fluid levels and the magnet inside, then I am going to pull the front prop shaft and see if the chain is tight

Today I ordered switches to run the following from a six switch pod that I will install in the center console:
-Air compressor
-Reverse lights
-Windshield lights
-Winch power on
-Winch control in & out
-Rear locker (right now only engages 4lo w/ OEM setup)

I also picked up the hardware I ordered from Hutchinson to be able to run my new to me Hutchinson double beadlocks

I have everything I need but I now have to order new rubber!

lol was going through my thread looking for a certain pic and came across this post..... I now went the hutchinson route

I got parts piling up in my spare room that I need to get installed in the next month and a half before I move! What I am most excited for is the OEM leaf pack I just picked up for free! apparently they only have 10,000kms (6,200miles) on them!

Here comes the SOA!!

Went to order some SOA parts from RuffStuff... but shipping was going to be $91 and then the exchange rate added another $45 to the bill which doubled the cost of parts between the two... needless to say I didn't place my order and will be looking into other avenues for procuring those parts

I spoke too soon!

Exectly 15 min after posting the above I found a Canadain 4x4 Custom Fab supplier that was able to get me all the parts for about 40% cheaper then what it would have cost to buy the same stuff from Ruff Stuff, so my order has been placed, I will have my parts next week and now all thats left is to order extended brake lines!

Here come the (gulp) wheel spacers. :no: Hutchinsons are nice but, they are the wrong diameter and offset for most modded rigs. Have you checked out Raceline Monster beadlocks? Very nice wheels...they come in 17x9.5...6-lug...and best of all...they have the correct offset to fit your Rancho....

Haha sorry bud! I'll be sticking with them, they are going on very soon!

I am moving out to Vancouver Island at the end of January and I don't want to haul all those boxes along with me!

The good news with that is I will only be a ferry ride away from WA and will be able to make it to more PNW runs!

But was able to get a start on my storage/organization solution for in the box of the truck under the canopy

Next step is to sort out my tools and spare parts then plan out the rest of the build up

Looks like a lot of work for something that you could carry in the bed of your T, roof rack or your off road trailer for the # of days that you need to lug around the extra fuel and the extra weight. But it sure looks BA on Orca's spare tire mount. Don't get me wrong, I do like the mod.

Well the motivation to put it next to the spare is mostly due to my move at the end of the month, I need to pack everything up and the jerry cans I have take up valuable space under the snugtop, and will be full of gas (it will save me about $50 bucks to buy gas here instead of the mountains I am passing through) the roof rack will have two bikes and a big military surplus water proof container, the the top of the snug top will have the surf board hi-lift and shovel, the trailer doesn't currently have any space on it to mount the holder, and it's going to be packed to the nuts with stuff as well... And I think it looks cool lol

So I am now starting to get settled into my new place, the weather is much more favorable for working outside year round now, which is F*&K*% awesome!!! (as long as its not raining!!)

I have gotten some work done on my to do list, but I plan on getting a few major things done to the T in the coming weeks (weather permitting).

Some of the recent maintenance work:
New "performance" brake pads and rotors on the rear from Rock Auto
The Pads are a Carbon Fiber and Ceramic Compound, the rotors are Drilled & Slotted Rotors

We'll see if they make much of a difference...

Then new generic parking brake pads were put on (needed these to pass an out of province inspection) & a new left rear caliper was installed since my old one was leaking fluid.

We had to bleed the brakes to install the new caliper anyway so I decided to install the extended brake lines I picked up from Crown Performance (for the up coming SOA) and flush the brake fuild completely while I was at it.

There is tones of slack in the brake lines now and it looks like over kill since my Rancho springs are stitting at OEM height on one side and OEM minus 1/4" on the other! But soon that will change with the SOA:woot:


I know I have been saying that the SOA will be on soon for a while but I keep running into challenges and since this is my only vehicle and DD I need all the stars to allign before I can fully commit.


Those hutchinsons have been staring at me for quite some time now, and I think I had decided to drop from 37's to 36's when installing the beadlocks and here's why:
Irok & Maxis Creepy Crawlies are the only 37x12.5r16's I could find and I don't love them
I found some 385/65r16 (38x13.5r16) Military take offs, but they are e rated and made for a vehicle much heavier then the T and wont have ANY sidewall flex
There are some ultra wide (in the 14-15.5" range) 37" tires for the 16" rim made by Nitto, Toyo, Mickey Tompson, ect, but I want to stay as close to 12.5" wide as possible since anything more then that would be far too wide for the 7.5" hutchinsons.

So I have settled on the BGF KM2 in 345/75r16 (36.4x13.6) and they should be going on in the next month or so.

I sourced a set of "used" but never installed LED signal light and clear side marker lights for $60 shipped and so I should have those for the weekend which I'll then tint the lens black to better match the Orca paint scheme (one of these days I'll use plasti dip to make the orcas look more complete :wink. While I am at it I'll be refinishing my grill as Its full of rock chips and needs some touching up.

I am also thinking that I am going to remove the roof rack I built, I never use it for anything other then moving beds it seems and I don't think I'll be moving anytime soon! If I do that I'll then be removing the 40" LED light bar on top too... Thinking I will just pick up a combo 30" bar or some 9" round lights for in the grill/brush guard to keep a lower profile and a cleaner look.

With that will also come the removal of the shovel and hi-lift mounted on the top of the snug top.... I can just toss them into the box under the canopy when ever I go wheeling, then once summer is back I will throw my bedcage back on and it will stay mounted to the sides of that like it wa this past summer....

Lots a change around here had to get some of my idea's written down before I forgot!
