putting this sucker on in 20 min! Hope it works... I went with F107n so I had a nipple to hook a hose on and drain directly into a jug!!

Anyone else have one on an Alpha!?

So I got the valve installed, everything worked perfectly!

In the picture you can see an extension that they suggest you use bases on the design of the oil pan (drain plug bolt is reassessed a tad bit) but you might not have to order one.... Stupid me put oil in before testing to see if the valve would work on its own without the extension.

Looking forward to trying it out next OC!

Just a quick update, have the following items being shipped as I write this:


1- Some OEM UCP (under carriage protection) for the trans and transfer case
Going to add the Thor parts Skid plates to the UCP
2- New brush guard for the front of the T.... it was bought "locally" (300km's away) and is chrome.... so that is getting coated with some Bedliner this weekend before going on!
3- Got my trans temp gauge and boost gauge in the mail.. but still waiting on the pod before I can mount it all up! I'll feel a lot better with those stats on hand while towing

Here is the new B/G pre box liner... The powder coat guys locally are so busy they said $600 min to coat it :S

Hey RamRod,
I love the way you mounted your LED bar. I'm planning on getting one as well, especially after almost hitting a deer yesterday because I couldn't see.
Did you mount the tubes to the existing bolts on the roof? If so, do you have any problems with vibrations with the tubes going all the way to the windshield?

No vibration at all, I used two carriage bolts per side with a nylon locking nut on each end

If I were to do it again I would use a 50" bar and it could be mounted with less steel in a few different ways

Just finished reading your thread. Took awhile and until now I was too busy to devote that much time.

Nice build!

Regarding the extra fuel storage. I always thought that if I needed to increase my range, I add a custom fuel tank where the spare tire used to be and protect it with a skid plate. You could easily add 10 to 20 gallons under there and the overhang distance from the rear axle would be less. It just wouldn't look as impressive, but is it for looks or function?

I've never liked hanging gas cans on the back end of a vehicle and I think it might be too much weight for the spare tire swing gate. Those fuel containers will hold 33 lbs of fuel each and a water container will hold 44 lbs of water. So combining a ~100 lb spare with two fuel and a water container you're at ~211 lbs. The Mechanical Engineer in me thinks that might be too much with dynamic loading conditions! The dynamic loading can produce the equivalent of a static load factor of 5 to 10. So if you want to test it, just hang 2,000 lbs of static weight on there and see what happens. Good luck with that!

Did you ever get your "T" handle lock pin installed? We looked at doing something like that on mine but there wasn't room to mount it. I ended us using a Jeep Cherokee hood hold open bar. It is simple and works very well. Really helps out when you need to open the spare swing gate on a cross grade.

I'm going to go to my SnugTop dealer today and see if I can get a key for yours.

I agree, I think that would be too much weight on the rear swing out! Thinking of hanging 2,000 lbs off the end while extended scares me!
I was thinking I could split the arm into two sections and have a pivot on each side to reduce the total weight on each end.

One thing I noticed is that I have some minor flexing in the bumper when significant weight is applies... So some bracing is still requires for the current setup.

As for the T handle I sure have it on there and it works like a dream and is my fav part of the whole bumper!! It's so convenient to have when loading and unloading! I'll see if I have a pic for ya

That T-handle looks slick! Probable more convenient that my hold open bar. However, the distance between the pin and the pivot point looks a little short. That is what scared us off. I calculated the force to hold the swing gate open an a 10 degree side slope with a 105 lb spare (my wheels are 40.5 lbs and my tires are 64 lbs) to be 17.4 lbs. Then I multiplied the ratio of the lever arm from the center of mass of the spare over the distance from the center of rotation to pin which I think was about 24/1 which produced a theoretical load of 400 lbs on the pin.

The 2,000 lbs wouldn't be when the swing arm is extended. The dynamic loading would only occur when closed.

I had my bumper reinforced to support the weight of the spare also.

The double swing arm would reduce the length of the cantilever, but then you have another thing to open and close to open the tailgate. Personally, I prefer adding the tank underneath, but so far I haven't had a need for increased range. Gas stations are ubiquitous in California.

Just left my SnugTop dealer. You can replace the lock for $65 or get 2 keys for $18.36 but it takes at least a week. I assumed you would opt for 2 keys so I ordered them. When they arrive I'll mail them to you and you can PayPal me the actual out of pocket cost.

I gave them the serial number and key number that you PM'd me, so they should be cut to fit your lock. I guess that is why it takes at least a week. Probably be about a week from Monday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Seams like a security flaw, but they did check to verify that I had purchased a SnugTop SlantBack, so I guess there is a little security check going on.
