Anybody have any idea where to find the rear backing plates (both sides)?

I believe the parts are:

GM 15111377 Plate,Rear Brake Backing (drivers side)
GM 15111378 Plate,Rear Brake Backing (passenger side)

That might be a tough one. I looked for a L. one, and have had my eye open for one and haven't found one. A lot of outfits which sell a rear end sell as a complete unit. But keep checking ebay and the like. Maybe someone on the forum has one (or both). Is yours rusted? Maybe you can have a fabricator weld up the weak areas.

Thanks! I will keep an eye out online and for any used H3's that may pop up, and I will check with a place around here that may be able to make one or fix mine up, but mine are pretty rotten. I don't really use the emergency brake for anything and it works for now but apparently these are ready to break soon enough they think

My left one isn't the best either... I feel your pain. I searched and could find another GM that is the same. There might be, but I didn't come across it....

Anybody know if there's another backing plate in the GM parts bin the same as an H3?

The dealer showed me a video of both of mine it is surprising my emergency brake even works...both are corroded badly, and so they figure they'll rot right off in 6-8 months.

Boo to 1 of yours being bad!

If I happen to come up with anything I'll try to remember to come back to this thread and let you know what I have found out!

Maybe we'll get lucky and Dorman will start making them. Maybe we should all blitz Dorman with emails, so they know there's a need. They are 'similar' to other GM's so I think they'd only have to make the center portion unique. But IDK if there are enough H3's out there to make it worth their while.

If you took your backing plates to a metal fabricator or welding shop, along with some pictures of what they're supposed to look like, I'm sure they could fix them. They'd just have to weld in multiple pieces to get the shape right. Unless yours are totally gone. The other option is to buy a rust-free read diff. Kind of extreme, but.

It seems crazy to me that these are even discontinued. I think mine are well rusted so not sure I can salvage them, but I do like the idea so I will likely reach out to a metal place i know of and see what they can come up with, assuming I cannot find the parts.

Apparently the axle is coming off to replace them, but as you said, a bit extreme but would do the trick

I hear you. I've been hoping GM would make another production run of those.

Another possibility for guys who like to fabricate in their spare time: *If* a guy could find another GM backing plate (Tahoe/Suburban/Truck, etc) which used the same outer (round) section, a guy could cut out (grind out) the center plate and weld the H3 center plate to the new round backing plate. It might not be financially feasible to pay a shop to do that, unless a guy was super-desperate or you could buy a cheaper dorman set. But if there's a similar backing plate out there (same as the H3 -- and I don't know if there is) a guy could possibly do that. It's a remote possibility. Or make a trip to Vegas ...try your hand at a few tables, watch some shows and scrounge the yards for some rust-free backing plates. :)

You would think with so many GM products and some Hummers being as recent as 2010, these parts wouldn't be so hard to find.

Very interesting...I have a call into the dealership, and they are scouring for the parts and also if any other vehicles use a the same ones. There is a local shop that I do believe will make some custom parts (like springs etc., but I have no idea if they'd get into making a smaller part...may be somebody I call and ask...it's just doesn't make a lot of sense to me that if these break you cannot replace them, and you need them.

Our vehicles seem to be going the way of the dodo bird with eventually not much aftermarket support. One of GM's recent folly's (IMO) is letting the H3 lapse. It was built on the Colorado assembly line anyway. The tooling already existed. They could have done an H3 body *refresh* in 2011, and re-branded it the Chevrolet Blazer-3, and been a steady seller against the wrangler all these years. The market obviously existed (hence all the Bronco's running around). It would have made a lot more sense than dumping tens of millions into a flight-of-fancy 10,000 lb electric hummer that almost nobody is going to buy at $112,000. Imagine all the roof leaks THAT thing will have with all those removable panels!! Well, it doesn't change reality. Long term H3 owners are going to have to get real creative and/or own a parts vehicle to keep our H3's on the road long term.

This is it, I don't know why they stopped completely when clearly there is a market for this style vehicle...Renegades for small ones, and Bronco's return.

I see people driving really old cars, and I can't wrap my ahead around why some vehicles that are only 15 years old or so would have such trouble for parts...there is obviously a demand

The electric Hummer seems about as far from a Hummer as you can get

Thanks! For the oemcats site, I can go in and add the part to my cart, and click checkout...but I can't see where you can actually proceed with the purchase.

The World Direct site...they list it as available and then it says to contact them, and immediately they reply saying they don't have 1.
