I've been looking on the site, couldn't find anything about this question. Maybe didn't look back far enough. I have a 06 H3, just curious what gas are people using? I have been running 87 tier one gas. I have 141000 miles on the 3.
Thanks
Les

I also have and 06' H3 with 110k and just have been using unleaded - 87 Octane rating. Don't think you will notice a difference if you use premium. The only way you would be able to tell 87 from 93 if you were driving a high performance vehicle.

Unless the engine controller is modified to use higher octane I don't believe it will make much difference.

I have a Flashpaq and ran several tanks of premium before in stalling the performance setting and could tell it made a difference. In fact I thought it was a bit much lifting the front end and slipping tires in tight turns out of driveways. I went back to tow mode and run 87 and with the more positive shifts and later shifting works for my heavy Alpha.

Just like in the old days if you did not advance the timing with distributor settings it will not take full advantage.

I did a test with a tank of 93 against a tank of 87 and found that there was a very slight increase in MPG with the 93, but not enough to justify the higher fuel cost. This is with an 06 3.5.

It's my understanding from an engineer. The calibration tables for higher octane were never developed for the H3.
So using higher octane just wastes your money.
I run 85 octane in northern Utah. But all of my driving is over 4000 feet. So I can get way with it.

When I had the PCM tuned there was an option to have it programmed for ethanol. I found that interesting.

If you run e85 (85% ethanol) it's like running 104 octane race fuel... but some each molecule has 30% less energy you decrease your fuel rating by about 30%... but it also tends to be 25% cheaper so worth the performance gain.... but you need special fuel lines as e85 will rot lines that are not compatible

I'm pretty sure the PCMofNC tune option was just for 10% ethanol. All of our gas stations in SD have that and some don't even have 87 octane without ethanol.

I'm amazed that there are still people who think that running higher octane in a vehicle designed for 87 will somehow do anything other than lighten their wallet.

Higher octane fuel allows the motor to run more spark advance without detonation. More power. Better mileage. This true for nearly any gasoline vehicle. However, it would require an aftermarket tune to really take advantage of it. PCM of NC can fiddle with the timing settings to get another squirrel's worth of power.

I run 87 religiously.

I noticed a decent gain with the PCMofNC tune using 92, but the biggest improvement was removing the factory throttle lag. The aftermarket tune is worth it alone just to remove the lag.

I'm an ex Jeep XJ owner I realized if you have modifications like high performance parts, lift kits, and big tires your rig will
drink your regular fuel. I learned that the hard way. Believe it or not premium fuel last a little longer than regular.
I'm running 89 octane and my H3 runs just fine. Thats my experience and 2 cents. lol
