Slotting it or making very large holes would help greatly. Honestly, factory style or the boulder accessory style have proven their effectiveness in holding the weight of the vehicle while sliding on ledges quite well over the years. Hell, my boulder accessory UCP has held up quite well including having my H3 pulled off a boulder by Neo one morning at the credit union. (Don't ask, but I was high centered and teetering and needed the H1 to pull me off.:shame:)

A surefire way to get me to ask is by asking me not to ask. Do tell. Got pics?

I'm wondering about the Credit Union part. Well, that and if he had to pay off Neo to keep quiet. :corn:

There isn't going to be any problems with over heating, I was shocked at the distance between the skid plate and the transmission. The gap is so big that I have decided to make the production ones even bigger because there is like eight inches between the skid and trans.

Price still in line with the 1st post? Are you taking a pre-order list?

So far price is still a possiblity, I said $300 and as long as I get bunch of pre-orders it shouldn't be too hard.

Keep in mind that I haven't talked to the powder coater yet on price and I haven't talk to the laser cuter about discounted prices with buying in volume.

I'm already looking at the fact that I will probably have to laser cut several long (1"x6" or 8") ventilation holes in it myself to get air moving around in there.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. Even do it is not getting really hot in our region it would be nice to have a bit more room for ventilation.

You need holes not just for cooling, but for draining mud and other debris. Otherwise it accumulates and that eventually will cause a ventilation issue.

You would not have any problems running a set up like this in NOVA. A friend of mine has run a DOI full skid on his H3 for a few years now and has not run into any temp. problems. I also have a DOI full skid that I will be running sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. This is my personal opinion, a true skid plate is going to be more efficient obviously than the OEM style ladder design that you will get caught up on rocks with, if you are not careful. Neither setup is wrong, depending on where you live you might not agree with a solid skid. Schwarttzy looks like you have a solid product here!

Here is my setup for those interested.

Thanks for the post, I have been biting my tongue for a while. Currently I'm not worried about the transmission overheating, just like you said about your friend running the DOI for years, but I will jump through hoops to make people happy. Someone might call me out on this and prove me wrong, but I think the transmission lines that run into the radiator should be all the cooling an H3 Hummer needs.

Since you actually know people with the DOI Skid bolted on do you have any suggestion based on my design?

I truly hope you are correct, I do know that our temps down in the south are brutal though. We get highs in the hundred and teens for weeks at a time and in 2011 temps in Central Texas were over 100 every day for 3 1/2 months straight. I would love to wheel in late summer, but even without a full cover on my undercarriage things can get too hot for crawling. I support you for bringing this out and hope to get one, but will have to be careful until its proven GTG.

Ya I'll be sure to prove it for you guys. Also a bit of good news, on Thursday we will be getting 7-8 inches of snow they say which will be a good test for the design.

They are bolted up and read for testing next weekend. I'll take some better photos soon, but I ran out of day light. Also keep in mind that these are prototypes and not the finished product. I have yet to counter sink the bolts in the the metal so that they are not exposed.

Looking good! Mine is not bolted from underneath but above the skid into crossmembers. Not the easiest to access but no chance at all to tear them up. Sinking them will work fine too though !
