I don't know of any cons with the Defender, except that Scarsman didn't build it :). Jerry S. has had one for 5+ years and it has served him well.

Full length rack I did to hold my dads roof tent with front basket.

I really like mine. My only complaint is how they did the HiLift mount.

I ended up using the standard HiLift bar/pipe mount kit inside the rack:

Hello Cbetts need some help I came across this thread and I want this rack but when I search for it on amazon it’s the one for the JK not the H3 is it the same rack or is there another rack I should be looking for ?
I just noticed I have those lights on the front of your h3 you actually sent them over to me a few years back I want to get that same exact setup that you have sorry to copy you but it works perfectly I think you and I have the same truck and color thanks always appreciate it happy holidays

If I'm not mistaken Smittybilt stopped there production for Hummer specific parts a few years back. I can almost garuntee the JK rack wouldn't fit since the roof rails would have to be the same exact dimensions. If you like the short look of that rack I would suggest maybe the 5ft Gobi Ranger rack for the H3. It is short like the one depicted in the photo you replied to. Also, it comes with a free wind deflector and a free ladder that attaches to your tailgate door. Highly suggest the company, it's expensive but your get what you pay for. Great quality and pretty good customer service.

Have you heard anything about the surco roof rack? Looks like it fits the h3 and the rain gutter mounts as well it’s 5ft x 4 ft and I have seen this on hummers around Los Angeles

It is a Defender one piece roof rack P/N 40504 with H3 mount kit P/N DS24-6. You can currently find both on Amazon.

Reviving a year old thread... Wish I had seen the photos of the Hi-Lift mounts for the Defender Rack before I bought them. I wouldn't have bought the Hi-Lift mounts.

I just ordered a one piece Defender Rack from 4WheelParts. Total for the Defender Rack with mounts for H3, axe/shovel mount, and hi-lift mount was $600 they pay the tax. Waiting for delivery after 12/2.

I previously had a Rola. I removed it after the entire Roof Rack kept coming loose and ended sliding onto my hood while doing some rock crawling. Fortunately no damage when it happened... I've been looking for best option for a rack that connects directly in the OEM rails vs. connecting to the OEM cross bars. Over time, they loosen up from vibrations off road.
