I just averaged 18.4 mpg on a 45min, mostly highway, trip back from an afternoon mountain bike ride. I've got 35" duratracs, sliders, ucp, brushguard, roof rack and some other mpg sucking things. Usually get about 16+ around town. I do notice a difference in really windy conditions or with 4 people and gear. I can increase it if I pull everything off I'm sure but I usually roll solo so 17-18 is acceptable for me.

I would do tires, and protection first. Plus any preventative maintenance issues. Change fluids, check brakes, check suspension components. You gotta have a solid platform to start with. If you're gonna wheel it, branch out in that direction.... Start with weak links (steering rack bracket, plastic shift fork if worn, 16mm tie rods if you have 14s).... If you don't plan to wheel it, go the other route... There's things that will benefit the truck whether you wheel or not (pcm tune, radio, back up cam, etc).... It just depends what you wanna use it for... Don't forget tools, trail spares and recovery gear if you're gonna hit some trails.

You really can't beat the BFG KO A/T tire. I got 75k out of a set and when I traded in that rig they still had 1/4 of the tread remaining and they were all worn evenly. I will have to say that I think the Goodyear Duratrac is also a good tire. I am very happy with the set on my wife's H3.

Winch wise I prefer Warn, but Superwinch, and on a budget the Smittybilt XRC8 are also good.

Check out engo winches....they are made by the old ceo of mile marker. I got a 10000 pound synthetic winch for 519. One of the 4x4 mags ran a comparison of them against the other usual suspects and they performed quite well actually

So would 305's fit with no rubbing if i did a slight torsion bar crank? Any loss of power or big loss of mpg if i did this its either 285's or 305's.

MPG depends more on the skinny pedal than the mods, but most mods, especially bigger tires, will affect MPG. Bigger tires usually have more weight and of course more width generally means more resistance.

I don't know much about General tires so I can't provide feedback on those. I noticed MPG decreases going from 32 to 33 and again when I went to 35.

305s can definitely rub, as can 295s. However, they just hit the swaybar and it doesn't cause damage or wear and tear.

Could be your steering rack bracket or bushings being worn causing the rack to slightly move outta alignment... Or they didn't do a quality alignment... I've had that before....

The gm bracket is weak. The drivers side bushings usually hold up ok. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it to get rid of a weak link. But that may or may not solve your current issue. If you replace it, you'll want an alignment afterwards... I would look into it if you plan to wheel your truck. If not, just inspect the stock one and make sure it's still in good shape.

One thing just to add is that it wasn't pulling until I cranked the tbar up so it might have some relevance to that or maybe not just thought id add

i have a super winch tiger shark that i really like and at low cost, for cameras these from rearviewsafety are really good, cost a little more than average but my friend has this package on his jeep and the quality is really good at night and day, with the camera inverted properly, highly suggest these cameras. will be on my list soon.
