I'll pass on AAMCO since I'd have to drive 45-60 minutes south so I'll just head up to Big Bear from Burbank directly. I'll keep the CB and HAM on in case I pick you guys up along the way.

I'll be going 134 W to 210 W to 330N [I never was on 330 before, I always took SR 18 up to Big Bear in the past].

I'll be early enough that I'll probably stop for breakfast somewhere along the way.

For Those of you who have a HAM license, the Big Bear 2 meter repeater on 147.330 with a positive offset and a tone of 131.8 works really well.

I'll be going straight there from Silverado because AAMCO would be back tracking for me and I don't want to get up earlier than I have to. I have one passanger.

Olan, we need to do a joint CA/SD run together sometime. We'll pick a meeting point somewhere inbetween CA and SD that minimizes the total miles driven.

Didn't a guy go on a psycho run a few years back in the Big Bear run with a Jafab lift and huge ass tires and proceeded to snap his half shafts on the first obstacle?

The only big lift I saw on an H1 that I think was done right was the TAK-4 Upgrade from Oshkosh.

I remember something like that except I thought Jim told him he couldn't go on the run because they didn't all want to be wrenching on his truck the whole time. Seems like it had a lot of issues right at the trailhead.

That guy had a lead foot, 50+ inch tires, and an early Jafab truck (used in most of Jafab's early ads) -- anything that could be unbolted was chromed...even under the truck!! When we got under it to check it out after the half shaft going, there were a bunch of loose bolts and stress cracks in the crossmembers. It was maybe 100 feet into Holcomb Creek (me thinks?) so he just backed out slinked away. We didn't want him along on that trail because we felt we'd be stopping to fix something every 100 yards. I think he lived nearby in Lake Arrowhead. Jim offered to help him fix it and check it out the next weekend but the guy never took him up on the offer for help. He was a big talker and showing off...said he had done the trail many times. Obviously not, the way he was hammering it.
