Nightstalker: I had never *really* been offroad before Moab besides some minor dirt trails. I knew nothing, had never been spotted, was a little scared I was going to wreck my new truck. Looked up at the hills we were about to climb like "WTF????" Was pretty scared, but this group is GREAT, and in no time I was comfortable driving just about anywhere in Moab. And the spotters in our group are superb-- if you can listen and follow directions they'll get you through anything, and our group is pretty careful to not let you do things beyond you or your vehicle's capability, even when you want to.
What you DO need though is a spare tie rod (or 2!), as that's a pretty common thing to break. Although with a big group like ours someone will probably have an extra spare.
If you're like me, you'll be amazed at the skill at which this group tackles trail repairs. I was freaked out about working on my hummer before my first Moab trip, now I see people swapping out axles, driveshafts, you name it, and it's not that bug of a deal for them.
So if you can make it-- come! You won't be sorry. I may or may not make it this year... possibly just for a couple days, but it's a hairy time to get away from work and family.
