Whew, got some good prep on the trucks today with Jerry S. and Reloader.
Reloader's got the hoist installed in his garage so we were ready to christen the floor with power steering fluid, engine oil and grease. Jerry's rack was well worn out at the inner tie rods with lots of slop. Reloader and Jerry swapped out the rack for a new unit and of course we put on the Scorpworks/Preferred Chassis Fabrication Steering Rack Bracket (Friends don't let friends replace racks without this important upgrade!) Jerry's truck went from having as much steering accuracy as a Deadliest Catch fishing boat to something that felt race car sharp in comparison.
Jerry finally got some OEM UCP installed. I was surprised that it lined right up even though he's wheeled the truck for over six years. Those crossmembers can take a beating.
However, we also figured out we need to replace the right side upper control arm, diff bracket, CV axle, axle seal and lower ball joint. That appears like it will be next week's project.
On my truck we changed the oil and Reloader cleaned up my rear driver's caliper. It keeps sticking. One shop lubed it but Reloader took it apart, cleaned it with a wire brush bit and greased it up. Working much, much better now. Also put a bit of tubing as insulation on the transmission cooler lines where they were rubbing other components on the truck.
Which would you want to install on your truck?
On Reloader's truck, well, we just used that to get beer and a bite to eat when we were finished.
