I have owned my 2nd H3 (2006) for about a month and came out to a completely dead battery yesterday morning. I charged the battery back up, put it back in the H3 and drove it about 10 miles. My charging voltage is at 14v according to my Scan Gauge 2. This morning, battery voltage was only at 11.8V so with the H3 still “asleep” I did a voltage drop test on the fuses. The radio(RDO) fuse was showing almost 6mv and the AMP was at 1mv. The red light next to the CD slot on the right side of the stereo was on but no display. I pushed the power button and it made a slight shuffling sound then the red light went from red to green to off. I checked the fuse again with the meter and it and the amp fuse were both at zero. What is going on here?LOL
A stupid question but what does that red light indicate?
I drove it to work and pulled the fuse to the radio to be safe but then my AC won’t engage now but the blower works at all speeds. Any ideas?

Hey chimpy,

I believe you are following the right path. You have a parasitic drain. May be time to pull just the radio and see if the battery remains charged overnight.

Sounds like a temporary glitch in the radio that you may have cleared up. Test the A/C by putting it into Defrost mode as that kicks on the A/C as well. That should help narrow down if it's a button issue or something else.

For a while, my stereo map DVD (or maybe it WAS the CD player) would run on for a LONG time after parking the vehicle ..and I wasn't noticing it. It was running the battery down. Ultimately it turned out the vehicle had 4 bad door switches (out of 5) and didn't know it. I found it by accident nosing through the scan tool, but it didn't show up as a fault. They were easy to remove (one screw) and continuity test with a multi-meter, and cheap to replace.

Not sure if that's your H3's issue, but might be worth checking. There could also be a short in the door jam wires (but that wasn't my particular issue).
