Hey guys I'm new the forums and this site is awesome! So much info! I was wondering what you guys would recommend as far as mufflers go. I really like the price of the flow master. I have the i5. I'm hoping to find something that dosent sound to tuner. Something that would be an upgrade from the stock muffler. If you guys have any recommendations please let me know. Thanks again!

I'm currently running a muffler and resonator delete and to me it sounds really nice and mean but other people may hate it lol... For an aftermarket flowmaster muffler I would look into their super series. I've heard the regular 40 on a h3 and it sounds kinda like stock. Go to YouTube and listen for yourself and find the one you like

I am running a Gibson cat-back. It deletes the resonator and has split pipes making a fake dual exhaust. It drones a bit on the highway but gave me a lot more bottom end torque. Only problems I ever has was crushing the tips from wheeling and not having everything lined up well and having the axle crush the pipes a bit when I fully articulated the rear.

Nope, but if you don't have emissions testing nobody really checks. And with the I5 it isn't terribly loud. It is perfect. Loud enough to make you feel like you're in a V8, but quiet enough to not get pulled over.

They have emission testing in georgia but you just gotta know a person that knows a person [emoji6]

One of my other vehicles is a v8 truck. Nothing special but I noticed when I put exhaust on it my gas mileage dropped significantly. Not because of mechanical issues but due to my foot loving the sound of a 5.7 with true dual exhaust. And for that reason the hummer will never have exhaust on it lol

Yeah I will look into the super series. I know it will never sound like a v8. I just want an upgrade from the stock. I'm hoping for a sound and performance upgrade. I'm worried about my rig sounding like a ricer lol.

I brought my 07 Hummer H3 3.7 i5 to a local muffler shop , had the stock muffler cut off, had the resonator cut out , and had a magnaflow muffler welded where the resonator was , then had them extend the tail pipe right out the passenger side . It is not much louder than stock . If I was to do it again I would have gone the flow master route , hoping for more noise.

You should've just left the muffler and resonator off... Sounds ALOT louder than stock lol

Don't you need something on there for the back pressure? I'm new to the I5 but most every motor from motorcycles, to fourwheelers, to trucks all lose some performance if you don't have adequate back pressure through the exhaust. Now the little I5 may be okay with just the cat and small pipe but has anyone actually looked into it or had a dyno before or after to see if you lose some power with no muffler or resonator?

I didn't dyno my truck but I did have a great test. With stock exhaust, I was barely able to climb Silver Canyon in Bishop, CA in second gear. After the swap, I am able to use third and bog it down quite a bit. Huge difference on the lower end, which is exactly what I wanted.

You only cut off your muffler right? Did you notice any performance lost after you cut off your muffler? I felt like mine became a little slower but I cut off both my muffler and resonator

I felt no performance loss what so ever. Maybe even a little more of a kick.

I've read about back pressure and all of that, but I felt no difference in power. It actually felt better to me.

I have a Gibson catback on my H2 and I love it, not to loud, but yet you get that roar, both when you start the truck and when pressing down hard on the pedal ;)

Guys, I was even thinking of buying a full exhuast instead of a muffler. What do you guys have or recommend? I was thinking magnaflow? I did notice the gibson was a lot cheaper.

This is what I am thinking of doing on the diesel. No cat, muffler where the resonator is. 3" all the way back from the downpipe.
