The reason being it didn't fit aerodynamic and fuel efficiency needs seeing it's a hummer.

6.0 headers are tough a guy with a 6.0 in his h3 is running stock alpha headers from a 5.3 because it's the only thing that will fit short of spending thousands of dollars testing out every header known to man but the few he looked at and tried didn't fit

Cost! The 6.2 is a money motor (vette). The 6.0 is in every heavy-duty GM truck for the last ten years. In fact...you can probably buy a 6.0L GM Target Master crate motor for very little (compared to anything from a Vette). I know several fleet companies that occasionally replace the 6.0L motors in their work trucks. As for the headers?...probably have to go the SuperBuick route.

I'm not raggin' on the 5.3L by any means; I just don't care for that DOD design. The VVT cam phasing seems to be a better design and more workable. GM didn't put DOD in the H3 Alphas for a reason from what I've read. Chris who I quoted earlier is replacing the valvetrain in his 5.3L. He's receiving assistance from a company that does a lot of business selling parts and reprogramming ECM's to bypass DOD in Ar. I think he said he had 70K on his engine and that's about the point they start failing per the company he's getting help from. If I was doing a project like this I'd try to slip my 5.7L LS1 long block in place of a 5.3L block.

Why an LS1? I'd put in a LS3 it's a way better motor

Yea that's the same reason I did the 5.3 lol Cost! How can I get an entire car with 35k miles for half of what I can get an I5 with 50k miles and zero accessories. In this case the I5 is long gone...

Not sure but the interior is in great shape and that's part of the reason this works out I can make some money back

I hear that the front suspension is the only thing preventing using long tube headers. since you have a SFA, are you considering headers?

Honestly right now I am not...mainly because I have a lot of other things to keep me occupied and to run the risk of spending more money on headers that might not work i don't want the added headache. I will consider it later on.

Yeah I would focus on getting the motor mounted and running before any of the other distractions.

Besides I think the fram is in the way on one side not the suspention.

Hey Chris sorry I haven't been fully up to speed on all of your posts due to surgery , but it's looking really good . Have you looked in to a t-case that would let you run in 2wd like every other 4x4 ? With your new gears and motor and a 2wd button you could be our new H3 mileage God.

I'm driving my father in laws awd quadrasteer Denali with the 6.0 while my hummer is down. LOVE the power, love the truck but F**K the gas mileage of this thing. I'll take my weak i5 any day.

I appreciate that Luis!

It was a long day. Woke up at 6 helped out my buddy with a ford ranger engine swap for a customer he had then went to school then came back started tearing apart the envoy. I learned a lot about motor pulling and engines when we disassembled the old motor and put new stuff on the long block. Worked on the envoy till 2am got 3 hours of sleep now on break at work and have school later. Luckily it's a short day so I'm done around 4pm so I can sleep or start tearing apart squeaky some more.

While you're diggin into that turd...keep an eye out for "stuff" that could be used for Hummer projects. A bunch of parts probably interchange, or might be useful for custom stuff...

- master cylinder cap?
- PS cap?
- intermediate steering shaft?
- rear axle?
- brake calipers?
- wiper arms (motors)?
- heater blower fan?
- bump stops?
- fuses, relays, bulbs?
- clips, brackets, looms?
- Misc. Sensors (VSS, wheel speed sensors, evap system, Steering column)?
- A bucket full of metric bolts?
- Looks like some nice front seats too!
