Whatever the name I will say that even though squeaky is becoming a bit frankenhummer it still is all GM. The H3 is a great dual purpose platform. Many jeeps will run a Jeep tub, a GM motor and trans, ford axles, etc. Squeaky is running a motor that was put in by hummer, the axle in the front is from a Uncle of the H3, the blazer...Squeaky is staying Hummer and if it isnt hummer its atleast all the same brand. GM may tick me off but overall their past has done alright. Cant say much about the future, or any car manufacturer for that matter...
Back to the v8 swap...We got the entire truck disassembled and ready to be pulled. We disconnected the entire harness from anything stuck on the body...connectors that go to the PCM, TCM, etc. Its nice to have some help from my buddy it speeds it up a bit, while I am disconnecting motor mounts, hes disconnecting the exhaust, While I did the transmission mounts, he was disconnecting fuel lines, and so forth. Either way we had it all disconnected and were starting to pull the motor out and the motor mount studs were still in the hole while the top of the block is hitting, we could take off the intake manifold to gain us room or disconnect the motor mounts off the block itself but I said we should just get out the angle grinder and cut the studs off so nothing gets hung up. :hack::grind:
It was 1 30 in the morning so we decided to stop there. Hes gone for the weekend so I will probably head back over there monday to finish that. Basically cut the studs then pull the motor, hoist and everything is ready to go.
This weekend I will turn my attention to squeaky thats still at my house, start disconnecting fuel lines, more wiring and basically make it so that when I bring the hummer over there early next week we can get straight to work and start pulling the motor after a few little finishes. Its going slower seeing I am in school full time and working 25-30 hours a week BUT I am glad I can do the swap even if its not during the ideal time.
After the motor is pulled in both I will drop the trans in the H3 (trans and motor are coming out together in the envoy) and we will be swapping parts over to make it work. Later H3 models had an input speed sensor on the trans but 06 and 07 didnt...In other 07 GM models and some even earlier models of the 4l60e did. For my wiring harness I will need to ship it out and have it modified. Once the motor/trans is out of the envoy I can see if it has an input speed sensor if it does were golden. If it does not I may pick up an 08 H3 trans...Basically between the 2 transmissions, my 06 and the 07 trailblazer trans were hoping to piece it together by swapping out the output shaft, the tailhousing, the valve body and pan to make a replica of an 08 H3 trans, which has the transmission neutral safety switch and the input speed sensor. I know the trailblazer trans has the neutral safety switch, I checked last night so were good there. Just need to check on the input speed sensor.
Heres a pic of the motor being ready to get pulled.
