On the fence about an H2...

Should I go (spend the $) for an H2 with about 75k miles or should I spend the money on tires etc... For my Tahoe. The Tahoe has a regular open diff and the GM torque management seems to neuter the capabilities. What does the H4O "brain-trust" think I should do?

i think the front end of the Tahoe would also need some work.
Of course keeping the H3.

Thanks, Doug

And the Tahoe once got stuck in the parking lot of a county fair. "Okay honey, whatever you do, don't stop!" And she did... Lol. Won't have that problem with the H2.

Ask this question on a Hummer forum, the answer will be H2. Ask the same question on a Tahoe forum, the answer will be spend money on your Tahoe. IMHO, if you plan to wheel it or take it on trails and such, get an H2. If it's going to live on the street I'd just stick with the Tahoe.

I understand that we are all HUMMER fans - but what I was driving toward was someone who is familiar with both. I do believe that the Tahoe is nice around town and on those trips to Grandma's house. But the H2 will make it through the river and over the downed logs! I expect that I would spend $20k to make my Tahoe more capable than stock, but then it wouldn't be daily driver friendly.

It it is true, A HUMMER is like nothing else!

Doug, I agree with what you just said. I love my H2, but I was looking for a second vehicle (SUV) I did not want to wheel, then it would Tahoe, but in our case we already have a Suburban. We had a Tahoe long ago, the Suburban is my wife's vehicle and was more practical for us. We use it for long trips, 3 kids and gear take a lot of space. The H2 is a great daily driver, and great on wheeling or back country camping trips, but not that comfortable on a long trip with a full day of driving with the wife, kids, etc.., well at lest not with 37" MTRs, long tube headers, cat back exhaust, etc.. If the H2 were closer to stock then it would be just as acceptable as the Suburban/Tahoe for long trips. Now if you want a second vehicle to wheel, then H2 over the Tahoe any day, not even a fair comparison IMO. Our H2 takes abuse like no bodies business and has never let us down off pavement. Sure things break, but they are super easy to fix and/or upgrade. The only thing you really needed to change/upgrade on the H2 are the tie rods, they were the only major failure point as they bend like twigs under stress. I'm sure the upgrade/repair list on the Tahoe would be a bit more extensive to make it a capable rig. The problem with the H2 is keeping your mods under control so you don't loose they benefit of using it for long trips like I did. I let the mod bug get the better of me, but we have another vehicle that works great for long family trips.

This is exactly it. Do you want something to go to grandma's house on the road, or are you looking for something to go over the river and through the woods? Since you are keeping your H3 I'd think that would be the wheeling vehicle and your Tahoe would remain the more practical on-roader. However, it kinda sounds like you are looking for an excuse to buy an H2. In that case, you need the H2 - Tahoes suck. Buying an H2 will improve your sex life and possibly cure cancer. The police will ignore you when you are speeding, foreign royalty will look up to you, and super models will flock to your door.

skeptic - I've actually had a few of those things happen to me in the H2. :) Man, I miss that thing. Trips to the local watering hole were always eventful. A car load of drunk girls simultaneously realizing that they all have TVs and heated seats is quite priceless. Good thing I grew out of that phase. :shame:This thread may lead to a divorce. Haha.
DJ - Did I mention you should get the H2? :woot:

What year/years are you interested in? SUT?

I did forget one little thing though, don't let your wife/girlfriend drive your H2 'cause those benefits work both ways.

H2 off course!!!! I have a Cadillac Escalade ESV that I use for long trips. In the land (TEXAS) of big rigs and every growing number of large trucks and especially SUV owners, (Tahoe, Suburban (a cowgirl's dream SUV), 150s, 250s, and 350s, etc, etc, and everything else BIG in Texas, my H2 still turn heads, I love my H2, can't beat it.

I've had my H2 for a month and change. I don't regret it a bit.

I love my H2. I leased an 06 H3 for 3 years when they came out and planned on buying it. The residual was high and when the lease was up I found my 05 H2 with a lot less miles and cheaper. The only shocker came a few months after using the H2 as a daily driver like I did with the H3. I have a decent commute and gas added up. I ended up getting a commuter car soon after which almost paid for itself in gas savings...

that being said the H2 is really fun to drive, unique, capable and IMO just badass
