Torque Pro OBD2 App - Alpha Transmission Temperature Code

For the Transmission Temps in Torque, you can just load the GM Extended PIDs. There's no need to manually type in the PID - I think loading the extended PIDs is under a menu setting lower down in the list of settings (sorry, it's been a few years since I did this). There is Transmission Temp 1 & 2 - one of them work with the H3, just load it and if it shows temperature, you know you are on the right PID :)

For Oil, the H3 doesn't have an Oil Pressure or Temperature PID (that I've been able to find). If anyone knows the PID, post it here!

The extended PIDs for trans temp didn't work on my H3, and I've read where they didn't work on other's as well. That's why I created this thread, as I was unable to find where anyone had gotten the trans temp to work on the Alphas.

Also, Oil Pressure and Oil Temp under the extended PIDs work just fine on my rig:

On a side note, I did around 60 miles of interstate driving yesterday (70mph), and noticed that engine oil temp really gets up there...

Transmission temp stayed around 175, and engine coolant temp stayed right around 203. However, engine oil temp was up around 230.

Around town, the oil temp stays down, but running down the highway it climbs. May be putting an oil cooler on mine, since the 5.3 engine already has the ports for it.

Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth OBDII that works with iPhone? The BAFX unit mentioned above works only with Android phones only for some reason.

The problem is Apple's bluetooth protocol. It's something funky that doesn't match up with any other "standard".

I believe your only option is to use one of the OBDII-Wifi adapters.

No personal experience with that one, it was just the first WiFi adapter that I saw.

Yeah, that sucks. A Wi-Fi unit will only work in the driveway, and BT units for iOS are in the $100+ range! I really want to do this because I can use Dash Commander on the 7" screen of my AppRadio head.

Do you have a trans cooler? I'm seeing 208° after about 50 min of city driving with my aftermarket cooler.

Oh no, that WiFi one will work just as well as a bluetooth unit. It just connects to your iphone via wifi instead of bluetooth!
Wifi unit would also work with Android stuff as well.

Just the cooler in the radiator for now. I have a large aftermarket cooler with fan that I've yet to install.

Yesterday was a pretty cool day, and cruising on the highway with torque converter locked doesn't generate much heat. Around town driving does, as the torque converter is mostly unlocked (slipping).

Engine oil temp is OK to run up to 250-260 even higher with synthetic. It is designed to run hot to boil off water accumulation and prevent corrosion.

I read some of the review comments and see that now. I may go ahead and order one; it's not like $17 is a big risk. A $17 gadget with a wireless network router?? Amazing.

bypassed the OEM, outside temp was 83F.

Did a log today of my setup, ambient temps approx 115 F, city driving for approx 2 hours. Max I saw was 175 F.
Engine coolant temp hit 220 though (idiot needle still below halfway mark)

Btw I have a bad VSS (the log says im doing 1500 rpms at 50 km/h. I was actually standing still!!!!)
