Been looking for a compact 45. My 1911s and 220 are a little too big for carry even though the 220 does go with me quite a bit. I carry some 9mm pistols and 380 on occasion even though I prefer not to have anything smaller than a 9mm.

Though I'm not a Glock guy, they do make a slimline 45 that may fit the bill for you in terms of size and weight. I agree, I want the largest caliber I can dress around, but sometimes it aint feasible. Like jogging with a 5" 1911....

Went to dicks sporting goods today and they had one box of 40. 200 rounds for $70 and I picked it up, wasn't that bad of a price lol. Im surprised they had even one box.

The Wally World here is playing games. They won't tell you what is coming or when and then they tell you nothing came in and stock the shelves mid day. Every other WalMart in the area will tell you what is on the truck, when it will arrive and when they will stock. All I have picked up in the last 10 days or so is two value packs of 12 ga.

I was most definitely just playing.

I completely support everyones right to carry an inferior round if they so choose. (Damn, did it again):)

Really though, just playing. My daily carry is a Kimber Ultra Raptor in .45 but when I dont feel like carrying the weight, or I'm fishing or something, I carry a Ruger LCP ultra compact .380 (Nato 9mm).

And, I dare anyone to say an H3 isnt a real hummer to my face...

My bad. Night shift and lack of sleep caused me to miss the sarcasm. :emb:

I went into Impact Guns and Sportsmans Warehouse last week. Their cupboards are bare for guns and ammo. I don't bother with Wallyworld. Their stock sucked in good times around here.

Check out the Springfield Armory XDs. A friend has one and loves it.
It's out in 45 now. In the next few months it supposed to come out in 9mm.

Talked to the person in sporting goods at the local WalMart( Irvine/Von Karman ) last night. Guy said they had ammo in and would put it out at 7:00 AM the next morning. Said they had 22LR, 223, 9mm and 45. Got there in time to be first in line. The department manager, Tim, comes out at 7:00 AM and says no ammo. Foothill Ranch and Irvine/Technology got the same order that Irvine/Von Karman said they were getting. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Check out Salvo Guns in Layton, I was there last weekend and their shelves were full. They got a huge shipment of all kinds of stuff and had a customer appreciation day to celebrate, free hot dogs, donuts, soda. Raffled off free CCW classes, gave away an AR15 and something else that I forgot... I'm probably going to go in today or tomorrow. They still will not let people special order guns (they did for a while, but have stopped), but did let me put my name on a wish-list - essentially if/when they get certain guns in they go to the wish-list people first. I have 2 wish-list guns that HOPEFULLY came in last night or today. Supposed to be in last weeks shipment, but paperwork delayed them "1 week".

As to the original question, I've been carrying 9mm HP in town but I'll probably carry +P FMJ when camping/wheeling/etc. out of town. Not that I have any illusions about a 9mm vs. a large bear, but for possible defense against unknown random 4-legged critters I'll take penetration over expansion. I went 9mm for higher capacity and smaller carry guns, and I'm trying to standardize. The wife may go with a .380, we are still looking, but she definitely will not go .40 or larger. Personally, I think the .40 is a great in-between round but I don't feel under armed with a 9mm.

Huh? Nato 9mm is the regular 9x19mm Parabellum. The .380 is also known as the 9x17, 9mm Kurz, or 9mm Corto.
This. I've also heard of the .380 as a 9mm short. In general in the US, it's simply .380 for one and 9mm for the other.

The LCP is a .380, the LC9 is a 9mm.

I'm also looking for something in the .40 or .45 for CC. I tried an XDS but in .45 I couldn't control it for proper follow up shots. The recoil is enough that you have the need/desire to adjust your grip after each round. I guess the frame is simply too small for a .45, at least the way i shoot it. Springfield Armory is a customer and is five miles from my office, I really want to like their hand guns more than I currently do. I didn't used to be a Glock fan until my son got into pistol racing, his Glock NEVER hangs up on him while so many others do quite often. Glock seems to be the Honda of handguns. They aren't fancy and they always work the way they are supposed to. I just wish they would go to market with a single stack .40.

Ive been buying quite a lot of handgun ammo online in the last month, far more than I would usually buy. I'm paying about 20% more than a year ago but I'm afraid of not being able to find any one of these days. I guess that makes me part of the problem. What I really need is .223 right now, there is plenty out there for $1/round but I won't pay anywhere near that.

If you don't mind a short trigger pull in a CCW gun, check out the S&W Shield. I rented one, .40 cal and all, and I liked it a lot. The only downside to me is the trigger pull is shorter than I want for a carry gun, but it's great for a range gun. It does have a traditional safety so I wouldn't call the Shield unsafe, it's not.

Hmmm, sounds like an interesting gun. I'm actually feeling like being VERY picky for a new CC gun. It absofriggenlutely has to be perfectly reliable since I'm betting my life on it if I pull it. I am a shotgun person and am a state certified trap shooting coach for our local high school. I know shotguns, I don't know handguns beyond a very few brands. I need to keep reading and shoot a lot more handgun brands.

I really like my HK P30 in .40 and do use it for concealed carry from time to time, but it doesn't conceal as easily as my Glock 23. The HK is really nice to shoot. Brian, you'll have to try them out in Moab.

I think we have the same taste in guns and hummers alex, FYI; carry is Colt Defender 45 w/Hornady CD; Competition gun-G17 worked trigger 3.5 lbs: Tonna carry S&W M&P sub-com 9mm; Her range gun-HK USP Elite 45. And then various black rifles and Shotguns. Are we bringing these to BSHS 2013 to shoot?!? All this talk about guns and Moab has got us more excited for the end of this month!!

I know the cal guns forums were commenting that the online inventory check on walmart.com was very accurate, people were using it in the Santa Clarita area to figure out the early morning that the truck would arrive [it'll get entered into the system automatically] then you head in and pick it up.

Could be that a few employees are stashing ammo to pick up on their own time to resell on gunbroker.

Heck, here in Burbank, Turners had a no-gunstore employee policy, they noticed a few of the pawn shops and gun stores were sending employees at every opening to line up and grab whatever arrived in the warehouse that day [receivers, rifles, etc].

Store near me [Guns direct] got in a bunch of AR's on Wednesday, about a dozen spikes tactical rifles in various configurations and a few S&W tactical M&P15, all priced around 1000-1500. They were sold out by 2pm, slight markup [say 15-20% over retail] but not a bad option for my friends to pick up a rifle while the one they really want is on backorder for 6-12 months.

Spike's makes a great AR. I have been looking at one of their suppressed models. I have found the WalMart inventory app to be highly inaccurate. I have been standing in stores that it said had ammo that didn't and standing in stores that it said didn't have ammo that did. Even the sporting goods department managers I have talked to said the system wasn't current and not to rely on it.
