Yep. The BA is the best rack for the H3...period. Aluminum! I got one on my trailer...

Driving back to work from doing a run, heard a (as best as I can describe it) whirring sound coming from the engine. The temp gauge was a little high, but that's normal for Texas. I checked under it when I parked and I had some fluid pooled already, popped the hood and the reservoir was full and there was a little foam at the top of that fluid. No lights came on and there was no steam coming out of the hood when I opened it.

Thoughts?

Is it foam or oil? In the coolant reservoir

Might have just been the sun hitting the plastic.

I'm only seeing one place that has any wetness at it and that is on the passenger side, under the air filter box.

The coolant is pretty full but no foam there. Is the clutch fan working fine? Could the sound be coming from the drive belt?

Not seeing an issue with the belt and I'm letting it cool down before I try and start it again. The fan doesn't spin freely when I try to spin it, so I think the fan clutch is ok. Could be wrong, I'm delving deep into whatever knowledge I've retained through the years. A thermostat wouldn't cause a noise nor would it overflow the reservoir.

I have never seen it in person before but could that be the tranny fluid making it way into the coolant via a cracked radiator?

Man...
In two months I've had the torque converter replaced, it was then re-tightened because the guy didn't do it well enough the first time, my radio has started turning on and off(aftermarket), and now this. By far not the worst of all possible things, but getting the H3 from work to my house will be fun.

Why not? You can put the transfer case into neutral, or in an even worse case you can pull the front drive shaft too.

I couldn't find it in the manual, but it has told to me that pushing both the 4hi and 4lo for 10sec does it.
Still relatively new to the H3, so I was worried that I could screw something up.

Thanks y'all.
Getting pulled while it's raining at night is tons of fun.

But I picked up a Spectra radiator and when I get the time, I'll put on a second cooler for the tranny.

Yup...that coolant doesn't look right. Plus...how does the reservoir suddenly get that full? There's only so much coolant. Unless.....

Yeah. Bad news. H3 radiators are famous for leaking internally. A crack forms between the main radiator tank and the small built-in tranny cooler. You don't actually loose much fluid but instead, both fluids are free to migrate into each other's systems. The coolant looses capacity to transfer heat...and the tranny fluid looses its hydraulic and lubricating properties. It's pretty much the automotive equivalent to an HIV diagnosis. If caught early, it will not develop into full-blown AIDS.

Tow the truck to a tranny shop (flatbed of course)....drain both systems...replace the radiator...flush the tranny....flush the cooling system. Pray you caught it early enough to save the tranny internals. The motor probably has very little damage...perhaps a burned-up water pump. But the tranny could be completely smoked....or it could work perfectly for years after the repair.
Many H3 owners voluntarily install outboard tranny coolers to prevent this from happening.

That's next, I'm hoping this is covered under my transmission shop's warranty.
I'm really hoping this was caught early enough.
