As most of the old timers have noticed, I kinda disappeared in the forums. I sold the H3 back in 2020 to start a new project, The Battlewagon.

I had pretty high ambitions for what the car could do. The last thing it really needs is a dual-range transmission. I think I had it all figured out on how to do it.

But then life got in the way . . . .

Back in February, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Doctors found a lesion on the back of my neck where the myelin has started to erode away, causing numbness to go through my body. So far, this is the only symptom and I am on medicine to hold it at bay. Being in my mid-fifties, I am making some life decisions about my future. So far, I am not experiencing pain or loss of motor control so I feel pretty lucky. However, the numbness does get in the way of wrenching on my cars. I am not getting rid of the Subaru but I will not be pursuing my plans to take it further.

I do miss hanging out with all of you, especially the entire Southwest crew (Chris, Dave, Zach, Alex, Louis). I hope to experience Moab riding shotgun one day. I have yet to participate with the BSHS. I sure enjoy the videos from those runs.

Anywho, I don't want a pity party. I poked my head in H4O and saw my name pop-up in a few threads and wanted to give an explanation for my absence. I will continue to lurk in here every now and then.

Good to hear from you Mr. Betts, even if it's with the presentation of some bad news. Glad the meds are working for you. Hey, with us in Hurricane this year we're even closer to you! Come for a couple of days.

Good to hear from you Craig, even though the news isn't all good. You will power through. Anytime, anywhere, you are welcome to ride along with me or even drive. Lots pf people have driven my H1s and Scorpion. ( Rick, Bebe's, Chris, Matt, our friend from down under, , Neo.....well you get the point. ) As we all get older some of the things we used to do well we can't do at all anymore. Adjust and adapt is all we can do. I look forward to hitting the trails again but have been racing my Z06 Corvette as a substitute. Take care of yourself Craig and stay active in the forum. You have a lot of friends here.

Hey Craig,
I am so sorry to hear that. I hope that with modern medicine things will not get any worse. I will always cherish the memories we had at Last Chance Canyon and big bear. The H4O/BSHS (or CHO back in the days) took me under their wing and it is something I will always appreciate. You always made my parents feel better about me going out to the desert with a bunch of internet strangers. LOL

You always have an open seat in my rig. Whether it is Moab, Sand Hollow or even the rubicon. I will have a spot open for you. If you ever need anything or just want to chat, I am here.

It's good to hear from you, Craig. Life is what we make it, I hope you power through it all. I will have an open seat for you if you want to make it to Sand Hollow next year. Might have to organize a meet-n-greet for SoCal peeps.

When I was younger it was hard to imagine myself in my seventies but those days are here and I think the most important aspect of aging is to stay active as much as possible. I've had to make the decision to work again as a mechanic/ handyman. Keep doing what you can do.

Thanks for all the kind words and offers. Ellen and I have spent a lot of time talking about this. We decided it would be best to sell the three-story condo and find something more suitable for life when my condition gets worse. I do not want to be in the same position as my parents or in-laws and need someone to take care of me. I believe in staying positive but I also must be a realist. I am still clinging on to my IT hobbies and seriously downsizing my car stuff. I recently had to replace the motor mounts on the Battlewagon which threw my symptoms into overdrive the following couple days. I am taking it as a sign that I need to slow down.

Anywho . . . . thanks again for being friends to me. The H4O (and former CHO) community has been a big part of my life that I will always cherish.
