I wouldn't think that would matter to an experienced tranny shop in terms of providing an estimate. Tell them what you know as you did above. They ought to be able to inspect it upon teardown and determine what the tranny it is or isn't. There's no way to know exactly what parts are worn or not...
What I meant to say above is all my trucks and SUV's I've had, essentially get the same basic *average* fuel economy, plus or minus a little, regardless of which engine they have. Same with Bronco's and Rubicons. In the old days I had a few Toyota 4x4 pickups and they got 19mpg and were 'dogs'...
What kind of fuel economy are you getting now is the question I would ask? Maybe there's something amiss that can be improved to help your economy (tune-up, repairs, etc). Mine averaged out (hand-calculated over 2 months), I-5/Auto trans, ..same pump fill-up comes out to 17.2 mpg. That's...
Note: You probably know this, but Onstar older than 2014 no longer works in the U.S.. Had to do with disbanding 2G/3G service.
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2022/11/onstar-no-longer-available-in-older-gm-vehicles/
Er ...maybe they still have 2G/3G in the Philippines. Do they have OnStar there...
True statement!! The PO of my H3 installed el-cheapo battery cable ends..and they were awful. Had problems too. I soldered a set of THESE on the ends of my H3's cables. They work great and look fantastic. I wrapped some red tape around the Pos side. Grounds are super important, so I also added...
I guess what does 'rough' mean? Probably means different things to different guys. A lot probably depends on the tires a guy is running, the air pressure, and the surfaces driven on (rough roads??). Mine's got the adventure pkg with OEM shocks (they're monotube's), Load-E tires..it's fairly...
Well, I milked the old mildly-leaking radiator for a few yrs till she could go no more, and got real leaky! It was part of my coolant replacement process! Installed the new AC Delco radiator I bought a couple yrs ago back when they were available (one of my hoarded parts). Also replaced most of...
If a guy's H3 has the Adventure pkg...and depending on the tires he's running, expect it to be rough riding. That's how they were. The stiffness comes in handy for off-road use. Maybe some Monroe Sensatrac's might be softer, IDK. The OEM Delco's aren't smooth either. But they have lasted me a...
I'm running AC delco's ...the OEM replacements for the Adventure Pkg, which I bought a long time ago. They're monotube. Probably made by Bilstein (but I don't know that for sure).
You guys pretty much nailed it!
I also advise people to get something newer like a Wrangler or Bronco. Most used H3's I see are in the 200k mi range, and that's about as long as these I-5's last. Buyers who would be interested in a pre-2010 vehicles, most don't have the...
It's really difficult to tell w/o actually driving (Shudder?). The xfer case, hard to say. Sounds maybe like it's not coming out of 'lock' mode. Could be the fork broke, inside. Drive it a few more days and pull the lube yourself (hot) and check it for shavings. Use a clean pan..put it back in...
The suggestions above are good. I would personally drill and try to re-tap. Drill the hole a like one step slightly larger than per normal ..if you have machinist's bits...so you don't put so much stress on it when you re-tap.
Should be a 30 min job or less if you have the tools at hand....
Crack both your rear windows an inch before you take it in. Just in case you get a newbie installer and he closes the door while the urethane is still 'wet'. It could cause a pinhole somewhere and leak air, water ...or both.
Then you have things the manual probably isn't going to tell you:
-Check the steering rack bushings (they aren't long-lived)
-Check the upper control arm ball joints
-Lift up on the inner CV on the driver's side ...for excessive up/down slop ..play.
-How's the intermediate steering shaft...
Plastic clips. Do you have a trim removal tool? It's like a forked pry tool with a longer shaft. Probably good idea to get one at any parts store. If you break one, you can get new ones on ebay cheap, or the parts store. Maybe watch a couple videos too. By and large the entire H3 interior comes...
If your sunroof has been leaking, it would be a good idea to ...sometime, remove the plastic sill-plates and stick a few pieces of lathe or thin wood between your truck's floor on the driver's side & passenger's side temporarily until the foam and floor dry out (few days at least). Or lift up...
IDK if the rears are that important. They don't have the fingers, and most report they don't clog up. And they go out the sides back below the rear seat belt shoulder harness.
Is yours opening/closing? Mine opens/closes with the key on. One thing on the sunroof's is, there's a plastic gear...
