There doesn't seem to be any interest in the roof rack I built, but attached are the 95% completed pics.

As it stands:


The last part of the project will be to build a wind faring for the front of the rack, and mount the LED bar closer to the roof line like it was before.

Looks Sweet!! i like my yakima rack but being in the city it leaves me with an inch or so of clearance in all the parking decks. Plus it doesn't really allow light mounting. hopefully i can get something like yours fabled up one day!! cause i can't justify spend over 1000$ on a gobi

It weighs in at 65lbs which I was very pleased about!

For when I want to toss fire wood or store other items up there I have a tie down system along the out side edge running length wise that has tie down rings that clip in that are rated to 3000lbs to tie down anything that goes up there... Realistically it will never see over 300lbs of cargo
I plan to attach an awning to the one side and I also have plans to build a removable water storage system as well.

Today I took off the SnugTop canopy for the first time, the plan is to build a roof top tent bed cage to mount the tent on for the summers and run the SungTop during the winter.... Now that I have it off I am not so sure....

You sir have a very, very nice truck. I am undecided between the two. I have always liked the slantback look and one day want to convert my HMC4 to a slantback.

Finally! Totally looks better without. Ditch the water-ski ramp. Run naked or Can-back...that way you can use your truck like a truck...



Be careful putting more than a 100lbs (including the rack) on your roof. While the rack might handle it...the gutter rails you bolt it to won't. Ask Nugget.

I agree with the rack limitations 100%! When installing the rack I could tell that its not all that secure by the 4-5 riv-nuts per side that is used to fasten the track to the cab!!!

I am seriously considering going with a canvas top, to help keep dust, mud, rain, and the honest people out of the box of my truck, the only major downside so far with the rough estimated measurements that I took last night is that the height from the top of the bed rail to the bottom of the RTT is only about 7'' (that's if I keep the top of the RTT inline with the top of the roof rack) so I am going to build a mock up this week out of some 2x4's and see if it's worth it.

I have not taken an extendable rack off the table as of yet either so I will also be experimenting with what that might look like as well.

I have been surprised by the overwhelming support in favor of the SnugTop!!

There are some angles that it looks better without some that look better with.... I do love not having the limitations of the caps... but with the bed rack that would put an end to that.... I guess it's all about finding a balance!

Here is an edit to show what I am thinking for the RTT


This is approximately how high the RTT would likely sit above the roof rack and about how high over the bed rails I think it would be (about 26" from the bed floor to the bottom of the rack.

Yeah I did something similar with my trailer. I have some large military Pelican cases that I use for my camping gear. I made sure to mount the rack high enough, so the cases can still slide in and out under the rack. Its also hinged so I can open it up from the side. I used some hydraulic assist cylinders so that when you un-latch it...it slowly opens by itself. The entire rack and support-frame can easily be un-bolted if I need to haul something particularly big & bulky, like a load of bumpers...


BTW...this is a bone-stock H3 rack made by the now defunct "Boulder Accessories" company. Its unique among H3 racks because its aluminum, so its very lightweight. Not sure you could get some assist shocks to raise a steel one but, you could probably use some hood springs off an old Chevelle or something.

I'd just do 4 support legs for your RTT. 6 is too many, the middle leg will be in your way more than it will be doing any supporting.

Unless I could find one locally, shipping alone was the cost of a RTT alone last time I checked!

Also thought a phenix camper would have been nice as well until I saw the quality they put out :S

Picked up some used discontinued 37x12.5r20 BFG A/T's to replace my fronts with! My current fronts are 21% tread, these "new" ones are 60% tread. For a $100 for the pair I am happy! And it will get me that much closer to being able to make it to Moab again!

I also picked up some extra steel for the bed cage!

Yesterday I took the T out for what will prob be my last snow run of the year, had a blast!

The truck spent a lot of time in the water/slush as it got up to 43 degrees and the snow was melting but had no where to run to, so need less to say it made things interesting!

Just got a call from the fab shop that the steel I had them bend up for my sliders is ready for pick up going to grab that in a few hours then perhaps get the mocked up and welded on

Got the "rail caps" for my sliders today... Don't know what else to call them lol anyway I need to do some trimming and realize I was out of zip disc's so I marked them out and saved them for another day this week
