It was my birthday, so we went on a road trip. I love Krispy Kreme, but unfortunately there are none nearby. Also love steak, but my favorite steakhouse is 450 miles away, so we made a weekend of it.

Back to the comments about the 2wd transfer case-- I can tell you from a 3000 mile trip a couple years back that you will gain exactly 0mpg with the front axle disconnected. It's certainly your truck and I fully support doing whatever you want, but if gaining mileage is your goal, you'll be disappointed.

Uh...I think you guys are missing the point of 2WD. It has nothing to do with fuel consumption. It has everything to do with pinion bearing wear. 08H3 knows exactly what I’m talking about (probably about due for another one right?)

Don’t jinx me! Both the front axle and transfer case have outlasted any of their predecessors! You are 100% correct though. I use 4wd way too much for it to make sense, but if I had an H3 that rarely left the pavement, I would totally yank the front driveshaft.

And 2wd is good for some hooning around like an idiot:horns:

Well after 8 years I am replacing the nitto tires with another set of nitto trail grapplers. Even going to fix the tpms light with 4 new sensors.

This years going great! Rack and pinion decided it wanted to head out, and now the radiator said it’s my turn. Atleast it was before Moab

We don't get much snow here any more, so I took the opportunity to goof around a little.

So I'm having this feeling that my roof leak is coming from the roof rack rails. Any recommended fix for this other than going up there and tightening down whatever bolts exist? Should I be siliconing certain parts?

You need to unbolt the roof rails to access the area below it. I cant recall who, but one member went through this to solve his leak issues and he had alot of issues to solve. Sealant may be enough depending on how bad the rails are

It could be the roof rails where they bolt into the roof, or even the pinch weld itself. I discovered the sealant used during manufacture to seal up the seam was disintegrating and the sheet metal was starting to rust underneath it. Still need to fix the other side. I cleaned off all the old stuff and rust, primed it, then coated it with RV roof sealant and painted over it.

Just built a new front differential with the cast iron carrier and electric front locker. Have a pair of new AC Delco CV shafts to go with it. Should have it installed this week.

After two years of searching for the Alpha I was looking for, finally found one 3 weeks ago and have been working non-stop to get my off road build done on it. I now own 2 H3's, wife took my 07 I bought new. When the weather warms up a bit here, I will do a build video, I've been trying to take more pics as I work to give everyone some ideas on unique stuff I've done. The slant back conversion on the 07 H3 will still happen but got pushed back a bit. Picture stock, winch mount I made this last weekend, and playing in some snow Sunday.

Im assuming that I need to drop the headliner to see the pinch weld?

Finally fixed the below CEL codes by replacing the respective sensors.

• P0365
• P0442
• P0017
• Fixed damaged exhaust bolt

* P0894 CEL continues to show up and my transmission is shifting hard.

Having the transmission rebuilt. Current transmission has 123,000 miles on it.

*Power steering pump being replaced also due to it leaking.

Nope, you take the roof rail mounting channels and the plastic trim off. The channel is held on with torx bolts, it all comes off pretty easily. The pinch weld is right below that and is covered with a urethane sealant. On my truck the sealant was breaking down and letting water underneath. It wasn't leaking into the cabin but it was causing the sheet metal to start rusting. I have heard of others though that it did end up leaking into the cabin. Another source of leaks there is the body nuts themselves that the channel bolts to. To fix that just use some blue loctite or some thread sealant compound (not tape) to seal up the interface between the bolt threads and the nut threads. Could also use some silicone sealant as well.

Here's the post in my build thread about this issue: https://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/fo...-s-Alpha-build?p=236160&viewfull=1#post236160

Took off the winter tires for the season. Blizzaks do a great job in the snow and ice, but compared to the KM3s, they sure make the Hummer look ugly. If you ever wondered how much a difference 35s vs 32s make on the H3, look at the second picture!

Just replaced the rear door lower hinge. Man I should have done that a couple years ago. The rear door closes so easy now. Plus it got rid of 95% of the noises the H3 made. It is almost like driving a new rig.

Took the H3 to Cleghorn last weekend to do a pre Moab run. Makes a huge difference with the front and rear sway bars disconnected. Cleghorn isn't too difficult, just a lot of deep ruts. Letting my son Derek get some seat time before he takes over.
