Yeah I'm going To experiment and research and really get into knowing what foods work best for me...rather than eating what I like/enjoy/love. Which is going to be my hardest thing to get used to or really balance...since that's my only guilty addiction pleasure.

there's a lot of bullcrap in the health and fitness world, and the blood type diet is one of them. blood type has to do with the antigens on your red blood cells, and that's it. people do well with different diets, but that's not why.

I don't know much about muscle exhaustion before a workout. It doesn't seem like a good idea to tire yourself before you lift, but that could be because I don't understand the concept. I try to do a bit of cardio to burn up some extra calories after I lift, but that's because I'm trying to slim down.

When I worked out with my dad, I did failure type workouts, where we lifted heavy and then reduced weight until we just couldn't lift anymore. it takes a while. That's one area where I'm not an expert, though. It seems like breaking down every single muscle fiber in that muscle would be pretty effective, though.

There's a lot of biological research at pubmed. it's basically where every scientific article ever gets posted. there's a ton on lifting weights and supplements and stuff like that. it's all in scientific jargon, which is a challenge to read, to put it lightly. I'm a smart guy and I'm a really fast reader and I've been reading scientific papers for years and even the ones that are talking about research that I'm familiar with still take me forever to get my head around. So... if you have a few free hours and you want to find out if a supplement or workout idea works then there may be something there. I used to use it to see if a supplement I was considering was worth buying.

speaking of, what supplements do you guys use?

funny story - once I got a free sample of hydroxycut hardcore elite from body building.com and I took it. Holy crap. I had the worst headache for like 3 days and since it's all caffeine I couldn't sleep or anything. Totally not worth it, and I drink caffeine like it's going out of style (dr. pepper, mostly, which is very bad). It's funny now, but man that was a terrible couple of days.

here's that link - it wasn't working before for me. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

On the topic of supplements. I avoid most everything, don't like putting 5 different kinds of pre, during, post supplements in my body. Creatine, venison growth hormone etc etc, whatever it is, I don't drink it. As for post workout protein shakes, I drink progenex recovery.

I'm more for the eat healthy, live healthy mentality.

Organic Beef Protein, nonstim-preworkout, creatine HCL mixed with ATP, stim-fat burner, non stim fatburner, amino acids. If you wanted a real fatburner you could just mix ephedrine and caffine.

C4 is awful by the way, Usp labs Craze (concentration/tunnel vision), Jack3d(energy), and my current Vas02 (made by my nutritionalist) is great for a pump.

I use to take a lot of supps: creatine, bcaa, l-glutamine, arginine, green tea extract, desicated liver, daa, multi vitamins, and bunch of other stuff. But it got expensive real quick haha and didn't really notice results from much of them. So right now I'm just taking creatine, fish oil, green tea extract, and multi vitamin

Awful in what way? I have never seen anything bad about it. Regardless, I'm finishing up this tub and going to try something else

Just as an aside, it really bugs me when girls say they do 15 or 20 reps. Man, you're just wasting your time if you're lifting that light. lift heavy or go home. trying to turn weight lifting into cardio is dumb. if you're only doing one muscle, then that's hardly a workout at all. cardio should be all of your body. Which reminds me - if your gym has a punching bag, try that. holy crap. way harder than running.

I know a trainer at my gym that uses lighter weights and does high reps. Guy is built like a brick wall. He does sets to fatigue/failure. Sets of 40-50. Instead of doing 3 sets of 10 with 100# on say dumbbell curls he does sets of 40+ with 60#s. not sure it would work for everyone but it works for him.

I watched a video on training methods for natural and unnatural lifters. For unnatural lifters lifting lighter weight for higher reps like in the 30-40 rep range would build muscle for them but won't do anything for natural lifters.

I finished a whole tub and felt little to nothing everytime, but it tasted good. It's the worst preworkout i've ever used, but maybe thats just me because it seems like everyone uses it.

Never heard the terms natural and unnatural lifters. Just know this guy only infrequently lifts heavy to see where his max is on different exercises. Says he has lifted this way for 15 years.

Steroids users are not natural and ones who use creatine and off the shelf enhancers is natural.
For as high rep low weight workout is more for muscle definition, low rep heavy weight workout is for bigger mass and strength.
Not saying you can't build a big body on a high rep workout but majority of the mass building workouts I have seen is low rep and high weight which is what I'm doing right now.
It all depends on the nutrition your body receives and proper recovery time between lifts as well as plenty of sleep.

ok my goal is to be at 170 by my b-day, June 22! I'm at 190 now. I quit caffeine and I stopped eating out and eating junk food and my I'm hitting the gym more consistently. I just need to not give up on it. I like this thread, let's keep it going!
